Shelby Lynne has a new CD out "Tears Lies and Alibis" and IMHO it's here best yet. I'll second both the Patti Griffin and the Jacob Dylan CD's.
The best for last, from 2009:

Michael Shreve and Spellbinder "Live At TOST"
Ex Santana drummer Shrieve puts together a band with more chops than Mortons of Chicago. My favorite album of the last five years and one that has rarely been heard.

thanks for the head's up - I just ordered it. I have most of his other albums, as well as a lot of other things is been a part of (eg, Stomu Yamashta "Go") and agree completely with you on his bands.
I have to agree that the Patty Griffin "Downtown Church" is a great new release. Patty has always been a favorite of mine. Haven't heard the new S. Lynne.
2010:

Carolina Chocolate Drops "Genuine Negro Jig"
Natalie Merchant "Leave Your Sleep"

2009:

Nellie McKay "Normal as Blueberry Pie"

In regular rotation (all on LP)-

2009 leftovers:

Allen Toussaint: The Bright Mississippi
Old Lights: Every Night Begins the Same

2010:

Hoquiam: S/T
Balmorhea: S/T
The Besnard Lakes: Are the Roaring Night
Joanna Newsome: Have One on Me
Second the new Shelby Lynne - Tears, Lies & Alibis - its very good, one of her best.
Jimmy Buffett "Encores". 22 live tracks on 2 CDs from his 2008 and 2009 tours. Good old summertime outdoor listening.
Another vote for Mary Chapin Carpenters "The Age Of Miracles". I have been buying WAY to many CDs lately but this album is one of the best I have gotten in a long time.

and another nod for The Age Of Miracles. Well recorded and good quality music if you like somewhat laid back tunes with good lyrics(for the most part). Seems the Wedding Ring song was made as a ready for FM radio and is the least favorite of this listener.
I haven't had a chance to listen to all the songs, but Marc Cohn's new CD "Listening Booth: 1970" is very cool. It's all covers from Cat Stevens, Paul McCartney, Paul Simon, Van Morrison and others. It has great liner notes and I bet that you’ll smile when you see the disk.
I'm glad to read this thread. It gives me ideas of artists to try that I am really not familiar with. I want to get the new Mary Chapin Carpenter.
I would like to recommend the new Crowded House CD "Intriguer".
2010 fav songs:
MIA: "Teqkilla"
Tracey Thorn "Swimming"
Tokyo Police Club "Breakneck Speed"
Jack Johnson "Only the Ocean"
The Throwdowns "Stay Hi."
The Gaslight Anthem "American Slang"
Turbo Fruits "Trouble"
Sleigh Bells "Rill Rill"
Vampire Weekend "Cousins"
Cold War Kids "Santa Ana Winds"
The Dirty Heads "Lay me down"
Crocodiles "Sleep Forever"
The Soft Pack "C'mon"
