Definitely the Giya G1 Spirit.
Definitely the Giya G1 Spirit.
My Long List of Amplifiers and My Personal Review of Each!
i am done with panels for now. You all have no idea on the logistics it takes to get a martin logan neolith inside a room. Too much work, then they are very wide so they would also block my view of the screen and i just don’t want to complicate things. That said, since we are talking about electrostatics/panels, i will go ahead and give another hint about my new speaker: It is BY FAR the closest to a panel sonically speaking. Any slight movement and the entire presentation changes. I have never owned a speaker that sounds this close to an electrostatic/panel, but with dynamics. 4 days to go!! |
The Kharma speaker line is interesting. The flagship Veyron 1 uses an array of 1" diamond tweeters for higher HF and an array of 2" diamond tweeters for upper midrange freq. In an AV showrooms video, the designer implies that the larger tweeters extend down to the midrange, my guess 700 Hz, with the other drivers working from lower midrange on down. This reminds me of the Tekton Design array, but done better with diamond tweeters. Too bad this implementation is unavailable in the lower Kharma models. You have to spend a good fraction of a million bucks to get it, plus have the space for the 90" tall and weighty boxes. They would never offer their tweeter array with the smaller models to save money, space and weight. Just business. Kemper Holt did a nice review of the Acora Acoustics speakers. On their website, you can find comparative reviews of the smallest stand mounted speaker with the same Be tweeter as the flagship larger speaker. The small speaker is comparable to the larger speaker. I prefer the smaller one for its midrange/HF clarity, although the larger one is more spacious and is better in the lower midrange/bass. |
Jay’s throw-back systems! https://youtu.be/pDqTwHzRzzo Learning ...never stopped learning Those videos are random clips recorded with my phone when I had no intention of creating a youtube channel. I figured I’d share them with you. |
Ok ladies and gentlemen, Here is the list of the 6 speakers that i have carefully gone over and one of these speakers will be the speaker that you guys will soon meet :)
It was one hell of a difficult choice, but i did my homework and i feel pretty good about my selection. Next week i will unveil my choice and go over the reasons why i selected it over the rest ! |
I am trying to understand why apparently many like Luxman sound. I can't. I mean, there is nothing bad but I find nothing special or engaging. Accuphase is not particularly engaging either but it is a more refined deeper sound. Yeah, a bit too mellow for me, but it's excellent sound. Sure, I'd take D'Agostino instead and Gryphon as well but it has its appeal. Classic Japanese transistor sound. |
I don’t particularly have much interest on tubes but when they come knocking on my door then why not try and play a little... Plus remember it helps my channel tremendously. I have a couple of acquaintances who do youtube for a living but their channel is about their car and they all tell me that you must change product or your subscribers begin to lose interest. This was another reason why i sold everything at once. It gets many interested in what is coming next. Next week I hope to tease you all with my next speaker. Maybe i will do a video with music playing and not show the speakers...i have many ideas but not sure yet. |
One step at a time... We will probably do the diablo 300 versus this other integrated and then pass labs xa60.8 driven directly by my dcs Rossini versus the unknown integrated... Then next month i will be introducing tube monoblocks to throw in the fire and see what results we get...let's play, mix and match, have fun and see what happens...why the hell not right? |
One day I'll try lamm. I'm just not quite motivated yet...many have said to me privately I'm already past the lamm sound... They said if I were with pass labs or krells or simaudios of the world that i should consider lamm but since I've been to brands above those then it would be a step backwards no matter how i look at it. |
I think, it's a good idea. Though I myself too would probably go with separates, many would choose integrated for the simplicity, space and aesthetics. Not everyone enjoys living room full of boxes, weird lights and cables. Gryphon Diablo, both 120 and 300, and D'Agostino Momentum integrated make sense to me. Well, speaking new equipment. However, D'Agostino is $45k, and almost certainly for this kind of money I would get Lamm hybrid power amps and Lamm preamp. But that's me. |
First video of the Alexx V https://youtu.be/7zcSf_u9jgo Interesting how it has morphed and now it has lights incorporated just like the chronosonic. Looks very promising! |
kren0006, Gosh, it is good to hear you missed me. I made several videos of the GTA at Steve's place with his components and with my Rane and Bryston. I sent them with comparison to Jay's videos of the Alexx/Boulder/Mephisto playing the same songs in emails to a few trusted people who have the open mind to listen. They show that the Alexx has greater quantity of mid bass and deep bass, but the GTA even with more modestly priced components wipes out the Alexx system for clarity and lifelike naturalness. The differences are 10-100 times greater than the differences among electronics, cables, stands, etc. My own Audiostatic 240 + Enigmacoustics tweeters are in a class by themselves for clarity, although most people could not accept their lack of deep bass and macrodynamics. On balance, the GTA is best for most people's desires, esp with the integral subs. I stopped posting because of the ridicule I received from many parties. No problem--people can close their minds and miss out. No loss to me--I have no commercial audio interests. They can spend several million bucks to try super duper electronics and dynamic speakers, but the GTA with modest components will still be superior, unless they like big boomy bass with its varying degrees of mud and thud. I will only respond to people with open minds, which sadly is rare on this thread. |
It seems to never occur to someone that no speakers sound the same in varied room, and that each speakers ask for a specific room treatment especially to work at his peak against another speakers ? Then any reviewing have his limits.... Any criticism also have his limit...Especially if someone has never listen to the speakers anywhere in a concrete room to begins with... Just my 2 cents experience... Anyway criticizing someone who give himself so much trouble and passion to did this for all of us is shameful in my book...W.C. is passionate and want to help...Simple... But in another way no speakers can be judged definitively on the basis of one single acoustic settings ...Then bashing them WITHOUT direct experience is at least indelicate...Some here must refrain themselves to do so... Only W.C. has this right....He experience them, not us. at his own risk.... Generally we judge speakers on the basis of OUR room, and we improve them with our set of acoustic controls... At the end our judgement is our OWN only tough... It is our own experience... The interest of this thread is the unique way W.C. could compare any gear, in great numbers, in his room for himself.... This also implied a limiting factor... This is his room his ears and the way he install all that in his working dimensions...This is a limiting factor with with to balance his impressions... But the great positive contribution of this thread is unique because for many products comparison, the limitations of the room and subjective experience of W. C. plays way less than the huge difference between the gear.... Then the impressions of W.C. are even more powerfully on the core and spot on, in spite of his choice of room and even in spite of his own preferences....This could help many futur buyer a lot to make right choices... No thread like this exist anywhere on the net.... Someone interested to upgrade his gear has interest to "decode" W.C. impressions and tastes, to factor his installation and room, and have the chance to buy some new gear with a more enlightened view and more alternatives at the end.... i read his thread with interest myself... And his videos are interesting to say the least... We enjoy....And we say thanks... My best to all..... |
