Moving: Where should I place speakers in my new room?

Hiya folks,

My family and I are moving into a new home and we'll have family room in the basement that will also function as my listening space.  Does anyone have recommendations on where I should place my speakers?  You can get a gist of the room here.

The room entrance is open and has no door, there are also two egress windows along the East wall.  These do recess from the wall about a foot and a half.

In the northwest corner there will be a TV stand with a 49" TV, video game consoles, and a sound bar.

For the stereo I'm thinking either West wall, with the seating along the East wall.  Alternatively, and if the couch fits okay, I'm also thinking speakers on the North wall with seating on the South wall.

Thoughts on this?  Am I better off moving speakers/seating placement elsewhere?  I'm looking for the best possible location where the egress windows won't come into play too much.

Thanks,
Matthew

Whatever the compromise is between your ears and the S.O.(the boss)

Its a family room with a TV in the corner, so compromise by default.

If that were a dedicated room, they would be somewhere around 6 feet out, 3 feet from the side wall, firing the length of the room.

Yes. There will be compromises. When you say firing the length of the room will speakers on the North wall make the most sense?

Our current home is a small 1950s ranch, and the stereo is in a room that functions as the entrance to the home, TV room, play room for our four year old, and thoroughfare access to kitchen & bedrooms. So this existing room has a lot of traffic and functions.

With the new room in the new house, with the exception of the TV, I have full freedom in this space and placing the speakers out into the room will not be a problem. Our four year old will have a play room on another level of the house, and besides watching movies and playing video games, this room will only be used for listening to music. So although there will be compromises, it’s still far better then our current (soon to be prior) setup.

This IS NOT a "one size fits all" but I found, it put my speakers with my particular setup, in an area that make them sound acceptable. Without that calculation, adjusting by ear it puts the speaker in the same area.

If you mean placing speakers in front of the north wall, yes.

You'll likely get more insight/suggestions on other options.

Trust your ears.

Thanks! I’m going to run with the rule of thirds and use the Cardas calculator for side wall placements. Cheers.
