Doesn’t Mehran, the ZYX guy on the West Coast, sell that brand of turntable? If so, he is the first guy I would contact. He is a very nice guy by everyone’s account and I am sure he will help you if possible.
MOST BIZARRE PROBLEM - CALLING OUT TURNTABLE DIYERS
I decided to unox and out together my Amazon Model One today and somehow, believe it or not I managed to mis-place/ lose part of the bearing (it's not even the ceramic ball - which is easy to lose) - in fact it is the inverted housing that fits in the platter.
The platter is 50mm think and I think is common to the Amazon Model One and Scheu analogue.
I was wondering if any of you know the details of the oem manufacturer, or where i can get this - better still how much is it going to cost me.

Well if you can't track it down you can always have one made. Its not that complicated. They are usually something like this https://teresaudio.com/project/index.html That's the one I have. I would still try and track down the part. But you could probably find a machinist to make one. They are super simple to make. Usually one part is stainless, the other brass, with a ball bearing and thrust plate being the one contact point of rotation. I took mine around to some machine shops years ago asking what it would take to make one better. They were all pretty interested and it taught me a lot about machining, tolerances, etc. So keep that as a backup plan in case you aren't able to track one down. |
Are you sure about Amazon? Their website lists a bunch of turntables. Also since they are still around they can at least tell you where they sourced the bearing? http://www.amazon-audio.de/Engl_Auswahl_Laufwerk.html |
Disturbing, however, this should be the most serious problem in your life. Everything in perspective, don't beat yourself up too much longer, some of course. 1st of all, the part is somewhere Sherlock, find it! 2nd, they appear to be alive and well, a long list of distributors http://www.amazon-audio.de/Engl_Ama_distri.html I cannot believe they would not make/sell you a part or parts, you may need to wait. 3. time to upgrade anyway. get something else now, eventually fix this one, sell it, the other, keep both. 4. sell it as is, let the buyer solve it. good luck and happy listening. |
Look at the first page - he only does spares and parts support - doesn't not upgrade or make the various items - Turntables, speakers and Phono stages. thankfully i found the damn thing - see previous post. as to 3 above - i have several other turntables already - i just happen to really like the amazon - very 'right' sounding Thanks for asking |
