Mid Fi streaming question.
Hi all , I’m currently at the Mid Fi level and in the process of improving my system. My current streaming setup is an Innuos Pulse Mini with an aftermarket LPS feeding an original Schiit Yiggy with an updated Gen 5 USB. I’m running a Wireworld Starlight Platinum USB to the Yiggy and Morrow level 5 IC’s to my pre. I’m currently running single ended and will be going to a higher quality balanced rig. I believe that my streaming rig is already the weak link in my system even before I go to the new setup. But I have an issue even it this point. The music sounds acceptable under the circumstances about 2/3 of the time. The rest of the time it has a more hollow sound and a bit more glare. My exact question is , I am hardwired but have a real hodgepodge of a connection due to structural limits. I have ATT in via coax to a modem/ router. I have a cat 5 out to the other end of the house but dead end before I reach my destination. From there I have a TP-Link outlet adapter that the Cat cable plugs into. Then in my living room the other wall outlet adapter with a cat cable to the Innuos. I know it’s a real mess and need a solution to the 6 items linked together that use my house circuit to carry the signal. However until I can get someone to run a dedicated line that will be 150 feet long and have to use an outside wall , any suggestions? My initial thoughts are to use some kind of Ethernet isolation filter. I see cheap ones on Amazon and some nicer ones that run about $300-400. My goal is to clean this up as I expect an improvement will definitely be had and eventually I’ll upgrade my steamer. Thanks in advance for not burning me at the stake. Respectfully, Mike B.
I’d like to thank everyone for their guidance, and again I apologize to all for being snippy. I purchased the TP-Link router, TP Extender and a higher level Ethernet cable. I also purchased the SmoothLan and it should arrive in a week. I also hear what some of you have said about my house power. I was of the mindset that it’s caused by the grid issue but after I change the Ethernet setup and then later add the SmoothLan for a trial I’ll revisit my power filter. I’m hoping I can get a solution with the two items pending. As everyone has stated it’s all pretty much system dependent and I’ll just have to experiment. In looking at some of your systems I realize how out of your league I am and truly appreciate your time. I’ll post my results soon. Regards, Mike B. |
@ghdprentice @baylinor @v-fi @zlone @kennyc . Good afternoon gentleman, I just wanted to post my results. First off everyone was correct in their advice and here’s what I did. Fist I removed all my TV electronics from my rack as I had my TV and all the associated gear intermixed with my stereo. With the exception of the TV I moved all the gear to another wall on a different circuit and gave it a separate power conditioner. I ran a 25 HDMI to my TV. Second I moved the stereo power filter just to the left of the system with my power needs for just the TV and the Stereo power filter kept away from the rest of my IC’s and speaker cables. So all my power is to the left and all my front end signals and the TV HDMI are to the right. This made a slightly noticeable clarity difference. I then replaced the Net Gear router and the TP- Powerline Link with the TP Router and Range Extender. This made a VERY NOTICEABLE IMPROVEMENT in SQ with the issue going away. I had also ordered a SmoothLan from Stacks and although my problem was solved I threw it into the mix. At first no difference and maybe slightly flat. I walked away for 8 hours and listened again, it was terrible. I’m on day 4 of of break in and it has garnered an improvement. I plan on giving it a week nonstop , then I will listen and remove to confirm my PERCEIVED improvement. I know many have complimented the SmoothLan but I’ve also heard the opposite. So based on my gear I’ll A/B after break in and make a design. I just want to say thank you for your wisdom , direction, and patience. Best Wishes , Mike B. |
