Looking for music that features congas, timbalis,

and other such percussion instruments. It need not dominate the music-just have a strong presence.

Suggestions?

1) The early Santana albums - Santana, Abraxas, Caravaserai.
2) Widespread Panic, look for live stuff.
3) A lot of Zappa - he had a GREAT rhythm section.
4) Airto Moreira & Flora Purim.
5) Osibisa

Jazz - Tito Puente, Pete Escovedo, Candido, Willie Bobo

Rock - Motet, Mecca Bodega, Snowboy
Steve Tibbets. "Big Map Idea" seems to be a favorite, though I prefer "Exploded View". He's on ECM, and his music is consistent with other artists on the label.
Just heard this on the radio, Steve Winwood,'Why Can't We Live Together' from About Time. Good stuff!
malo(first two rival santana), mandrill(any),war(eric burdon declares war,the world is a ghetto),traffic(low spark, live at the canteen, sheila e.(the glamourous life)
I second the Steve Tibbets recommendation, especially the early stuff when he was paired with Marc Anderson. Try Northern Song and Safe Journey.
Check out the Mapleshade label. They have excellent congas and pecussions that will blow your socks off. Really.
Try Don Tiki. The second CD "Skinny Dip" has more polynesian percussian than the first "The Forbidden Tales of Don Tiki" but the first album is a better offering. In my system it is of reference quality.
