Dear Lew, I must confess that I prefer comfort above perfection.
To me enjoyment is somehow connected with comfort. So I never
tested my Basis Exclusive (''gold'') in optimal way. The thing is
an nightmare to adjust because the cover plate need to be removed
and pre pulled out of the rack for any adjustment. So I connected my
Reed 3P with 100 Ohm + 4th amplification with one pre and my
(''new'') Sumiko 800 with 500 Ohm + 3th amplification to the
other pre (Basis has two independent phono-pres in the same
chasiss).
My Klyne 7PX 3.5 I use with Denon AU-S1 SUT which cover 2-
40 Ohm carts. The most of my MC carts are low-ouput but
with different impedance. So I use Klyne in its lowest amplification
equvalent to MM pre. My quess is 40dB . Changing carts is more
easy than by Basis but the cover plate on which the SUT is
placed need also to be removed for any adjustement. My exuse
is that simplicity has its own value while the question ''why complex
if simple is sufficent'' adds some extra weight to the asserted
''argument''.
