I will give that i try. Thanks George. I did use an ohm meter. Both speakers read zero when i checked them. i will give it another try.
Infinity Renaissance 90 Piano Black
I am desperate for any help. I have a very nice pair of Piano Black 90's. I blew the HE-EMIM midrange and can not find a replacement anywhere, Is there anything I can do ? can they be repaired? Im sick over this and do not know what to do. If I can not fix them what are they worth as parts? Not that i want to do that at all but i might not have a choice. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Thanks for the feedback George. They will not slip in. Going to have to build a back to house them in the original screw holes. I did dismantle one of the EMIM speakers. I could not find a break. I also am not a pro at this. Quite frankly i am an amateur. I still am shocked that they both went out at the same time. That seemed odd. I hooked another speaker up to the wires leads and it worked so i think that rules out the crossover. I am going to send one of the speakers off to have the diaphragm rebuilt. Hopefully that can happen. |
Doubt those Monsoons will be the same quality or be a slip in replacement especially what Infinity did to the xover to make the Emim work to their satisfaction, that’s not a simple xover. https://ibb.co/tJdT1bW Did you dismantle the Emim to see where the voice coil break is, as I outlined, to be fixed with conductive demister paint?? Could even be a dry solder joint on the spade connector lug to the start of the voice coil. https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/lXsAAOSw7~9gltvL/s-l1600.jpg Look at the voice coil difference to the Monsoon, they will be far higher VC impedance than the Emim so the xover will be out all over the place. http://i.imgur.com/oYvBh8A.jpg?1 Cheers George |
I agree with sunshdw it has enough wattage at 200w into 8ohm, but they don’t really muscle it into 4ohms only adding another 100w, the 2ohm figure would be a bit worse again and blew it’s fuses when ask to do it. And the Ren 90’s hits 2ohms EPDR and lower from what I’ve been told by a tester of them. They’d like a more Krell early amps of 200w or 300watters, which have more low impedance balls than the Adcom Cheers George |
I own a couple of pairs of vintage Infinitys. Magicmarsky (Dr. Marks) is the man! Also, the Infinity user forum at the AudioKarma site is a GREAT resource. Ask there and you will receive.... https://www.audiokarma.org/forums/index.php?forums/infinity-loudspeakers.129/ Good luck and "Infinitys Forever!" |
proos Very nice speaker BTW needs an amp with massive current to get the best out of, if not it could be the reason your Emin voice coil went open circuit, because the amp clipped? If your up to it they are quite easy to replace the diaphragm on, or there’s a complete one for much more money. https://www.ebay.com.au/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2380057.m570.l1313&_nkw=Infinity+EMIM+... It is possible to fix them, if just open circuited with small crack with this stuff, https://www.repco.com.au/en/safety-workshop-consumables/adhesives-fillers-sealants/sealants/permatex... https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/lXsAAOSw7~9gltvL/s-l1600.jpg Cheers George |
There is a lot of info on infinity-classics.de It is THE Infinity go to site. If MagicMarsky cannot help, perhaps try to locate a pair of the Ren 80's as I believe they use the same EMIM & EMIT. I had kept a 2nd pair of Ren 90's around for a dozen years or so "just in case". I never needed them as the speakers I listen to are solid as a rock, so I offed them a couple years back. I find it odd that you fried the EMIM. I would look at the crossover just in case it cooked instead. Good luck. -John |
