If you still spin CD's their is a reference level Transport for reasonable money

I just got in-house the Jay's Audio CDT-2 MK3 transport to review for hometheaterreview.com.  The build quality and physical appearance make it hard to believe that it retails for around $2,400.  Right out of the crate not even broken in yet, it's out performing my CEC double belt transport in the reference system.  It retains all the liquidity and analog smoothness of the belt driven transport but offers more details, tighter bass frequencies, and a larger layered soundstage with more air between the players.

Alvin, of Vinshine Audio set this review up with me, so if you go to his website you can get a lot more details/pictures on this transport.  The reason I was motivated to review a CD transport was I received scores of requests from my readers asking what is a great sounding transport, for a reasonable amount of money.  So far, in spades the Jay's Audio CDT-2 MK3 fits the bill easily.

I swapped out my DH Labs Silversonic BNC for a homebrew/DIY Furutech Rhodium + VH Audio Symmetry balanced AES/EBU cable and I am very much liking the changes, even after just a couple of discs on the new cable. Since I can switch back and forth on my DAC fairly easily, it's pretty simple to A/B the two.

To me, the new cable feels less dark than the DH Labs. And Yggy's AES/EBU is purported to be "better" than its BNC, and just in general it seems AES/EBU is preferred to S/PDIF, but in any case, I'm happy I went the way I did. And I got to learn how to solder XLRs. Much easier than RCAs, IMO.
Adding a reclocker, either the old Z-systems RDP-1 or the newer Titans Audio Lab Helen, will revive your transport significantly.
With a reclocker like the Synchro-Mesh, you don't need an expensive transport.  Even a Sonos sounds incredible.  A smarter way to spend your money. 7psec of direct-measured jitter.  Unmatched.

Try: “If you still spin CDs, there is a reference-level transport for reasonable money.
Just a heads-up.
Jays products, sold as "new" on e-Bay, through Doukmall or Nobsound; DO NOT come with a manufactures warranty.  You can read the disclaimer on the Jays website (for instance, if you look at the CDT-2 MK2 under "products").

Here is an answer direct from Jays:
"No sir. Nobsound & Doukmal are parallel exporters. Product sold by them are considered gray-market item, doesn't cover with our warranty term.
You may approach them for warranty & service matters. I hope they can support you further."

Just providing this if warranty coverage is important to you.

@garrard... Obviously, he is not and he will summarily ignore any and all inquiries made of him regarding the subject. Ask me how I know.

Yes the very good Cambridge Audio CXC CD Transport, at $500aud.

Has anyone seen this new CDT?
https://www.project-audio.com/de/produkt/cd-box-rs2-t/
It uses a new transport that's not commonly used.

Also, here's the transport:  https://www.suos-hifi.com/

All the best,

$4Kaud!!! for the German Project one, too much for me for a transport, when you can get the Cambridge CXC for $500aud

Cheers George
I double checked the price and it should be around $2800 (€2499) for the transport but it still needs a PSU, which they also sell, which probably brings it up to $4K. But if you can source a lesser priced PSU, it might be a tempting alternative. 😄

All the best,
Nonoise
@jriggy   You nailed it. Emails to him at 6 Moons and inquiries by me in active threads where he has mentioned the transport have all gone unacknowledged. In each case the single question posed by me was where/when can I find the review of the Jay's transport.
Un-F#cking believable!!!

I'm totally unimpressed with the quality of his reviews for 6moons.
"$4Kaud!!! for the German Project one, too much for me for a transport, when you can get the Cambridge CXC for $500aud

The CXC is fine transport but it is certainly not a high end gear.
The CXC is fine transport but it is certainly not a high end gear.

The OP has asked for one that's reasonable money.

I’d like to see anything under $1.5k new, equal or better it by a good margin.

nonoise,
I think he was looking for teajay's review, your link is the review by Sarjan Ebaen in 2018

I'm guessing that teajay won't have a review on it as he is no longer reviewing for hometheaterreview  and Sarjan already reviewed it on 6Moons
@ nonoise   Thanks for posting that link. Unfortunately, that review is not authored by TJ and I had already seen it when it was originally put up. And I have no quibble with any of the conclusions reached. But that does not let TJ off the hook for repeatedly dodging the seemingly innocuous/harmless question of when/where can we expect to find HIS review of this product.

All the best.

Since teajay is now associated with 6Moons vs hometheaterreview do you think that 6Moons is going to publish 2 reviews on the same piece of gear? Likely not.
Hey acresverde,

Please stop accusing me of dodging your question.  I clearly wrote a detailed account on the thread entitled, "Jay's Audio CDT-3 : Impressions of a Great CD Transport" which explains why I did not write the review and how Srajan quotes me in his review about my experiences with the CDT-2.  I also, for what ever reason had not received any of your Emails that you sent to me through Six Moons, therefore I was not trying to be disrespectful to you at all.
Hey garrard,

Sounds like your a real fan of my reviewing style!  Please, would you be a reviewer of my reviews and kindly share why you feel that they are a waste of time and offer no useful information to the reader.

Thanks in advance.
Why not just buy a nice marantz sacd player for a lot less money? I don't get it really....its a freakin transport. The marantz has both the transport and dac in one chassis and sounds amazing. Marants is known for their high quality cd players and have received some of the best reviews for many years running. I personally own their sa8005 made in Japan, super build quality and sound.
Hey audioguy85,

I'm glad that you love your Marantz CD player.  However, a "freakin transport" does make a significant difference when driving a DAC.  Furthermore, you are stuck with the DAC in a CD player, which is great if you like the sound, but not to terrific if you want change-up or improve the overall performance with a better DAC. So, your post has little to do with the topic of this thread, indeed.
@teajay     I thought long and hard about whether to respond to your recent post and, as I guess you can see, I decided to go for it in order to provide a little clarity.

In Aug. 2018 you started this thread to announce to the world your upcoming review of the (then misidentified but later corrected) Jay's CDT2 MK2. Less than three weeks later you posted to announce that your listening notes were complete (signalling to the average reader that a review was imminent) and then about 6 weeks later, in a response to a poster asking the whereabouts of the review, you stated that there were three reviews in the queue ahead of the Jays so it would still be a while and that was the last we heard of it. Okay...fine.

You had made some mention of the transport in other threads as well and it was in one of these that I inquired about the status of the review, on two different occasions, I believe, after more time had passed. At some point I sent either one or two emails to you at 6 Moons again asking about review status. You say you didn't get these and I accept that. And maybe you didn't see my posts inquiring as to the reviews either...I don't know. But obviously I wasn't the only one left hanging. In this very thread there are minimally two and I think it's actually three different posts spanning some six months by @garrard directly and unambiguously asking for the same exact information. Crickets! His last post on this subject was answered by me, as you know, and apparently it was in a manner which finally got you riled up enough to make an appearance. And based on what you said, we finally now can confirm what I have suspected for a while and relayed to @garrard. So, in the end, I think my "accusation" is warranted and sustainable and that you could have handled the situation a little bit more forthrightly. But having said all that, I don't want to make this mole hill into a mountain, it's not the end of the friggin' world and I, for one, am ready to move on. Hope that suits you too.

BTW, you mention a thread entitled "Jay's Audio CDT-3: Impressions of a great CD transport". I cannot recall seeing it and I would very much like to but when I enter that title verbatim and letter for letter in the search function, I get "0 results found". Should it read CDT-2 instead? Would you be so kind (or anyone else, for that matter) to link it so I can have a looksee.

Peace
Why would anyone want a Transport where the parts used to make it are now discontinued and no longer available? Before investing in one make sure that there are still replacement parts. Im told your SOL with the CDT-2.
@aolmrd1241     Thanks for taking the time to post the link, I guess I'm just snake bit with it, though, as I cannot seem to be able to click on it and open it in spite of the fact that I have no such problem with any other links up and down this thread. The fact that I am nowhere near computer savvy isn't helping any either.
I don’t know why it won’t open...weird for sure. Just copy and paste in your browser bar...and hit enter.

This is so true especially with the laser/transport , and to see if it's available "easily and new" just look in Google or on Ebay (not what the CDT manufacturer has in stock or tells you), and to find what modle/no laser/transport yours is look hear or ask the manufacturer.

Hey Acresverde,

Just scroll down about 50 posts on this forum page and you will see the thread with my answer to all your questions. Peace to you too, but I still think you owe me an apology for your accusing me of two negative choices.  1) Dodging your question.  2) Not being respectful to respond to you, even though I never got your Emails.

@teajay This my absolute last time to drag this issue through the mud yet again. My apologies are to all the folks who have had to watch this little soap opera unfold.

As I explained earlier today I have made a total of four attempts to reach you to find out the when/where of your review. Two of them were by email, the other two via inquiries in existing threads where the CDT2 was a topic of conversation. You have stated that you didn’t get the emails. Again, fine. Did you not see my inquiries as well? You have never said one way or the other. Additionally, another poster, @garrard, has been asking you for months on this very same thread the exact same question I have and they are explicit posts comprised of one single sentence. You at no time spent a minute to communicate with him either so either ALL of these attempts have flown under your radar (possible) or you’re ignoring them. Only you know what the real scenario is. Looking at your history, it is obvious you stay connected with your active threads and seem to answer questions posed by others so I am baffled as to why this one particular inquiry as posed to you by multiple individuals cannot/has not been dealt with similarly. So I will decline your provided opportunity to present an apology to you. I hope you can understand.

And finally, I’m not an egomaniac with a fragile self righteous ego to protect. I want nothing from you as recompense. As I said above, I’m just baffled how something so straightforward and innocuous as asking a question/expecting a simple answer has gotten to this point.
Hey acresverde,

Did you ever read what I wrote on the other thread to answer your questions?  If you did please comment on what I wrote because I think it answers why I did not write a professional review and why I did not get back to you.  You are the one that made unpleasant and unfounded statements about me, I never accused you of anything.  Yet, you are attempting to come across as the wronged party.  Thanks for not asking for "recompense" because I owe you none in this matter.

@teajay To answer your question is yes. Unfortunately about five minutes ago was the very first time, though. I didn’t even remember that thread existing until you mentioned it earlier and I then asked someone to post the link so I could see what you were talking about, but the link won’t open, thus causing further delays. But to your credit, it does give a credible explanation for the whys and why nots of the ill fated review. Obviously, I wish I had seen it in a timely fashion and none of this subsequent discourse would have occurred.

So in light of this recent development I want to offer sincere apologies for casting negative aspersions your way. Taking into account that I did not have exposure to this information til just now, I hope you can understand why I felt my simple question was being ignored. But just as i am offering up mea culpas to you now, you might consider doing the same for @garrard. As pointed out previously, his two/three "where’s the review" inquiries were, indeed, not responded to and he cannot be held accountable for failing to stumble across the post in the other thread that gave the answers.

In terms of the dealings between us, you are exonerated and I hope this will finally put the matter to bed. It’s just audio, folks.

Repeace
I recently purchased a used PS Audio Perfect Wave Transport.
I had heard a PWT hooked up to my DAC at a HiFi Club meeting, the club are very lucky to have a venue that is a Hi End HiFi  Showrooms listening room.
The devices brought along by the attendees are all given a audition through a very expensive system.
So it is a great get together, and a real treat for those who attend, especially the one bringing their devices
I am only recently leaning to CD replays, I have a long history with vinyl, and was not a supporter of CD as a source.
In 2017, I dug out a old Cheap purchased CDP, Hooked up a CDP to the main system for the first time.
Played a few tracks on it, using the Childrens CD's that have been left behind, from when they fledged the nest.
I was not impressed in the usual way, but left wanting to hear music that was more fitting to my tastes.
I visited a few local charity shops and for  approximately $60 outlay across a few shops had purchased approximately 50 CD's.
That was a pleasure to experience, and quite stimulating.
There was quite a difference between the CDP and Vinyl, but my inquisitive mind sought out a few CDP experiences to be had on the home system, using alternative sources and even though I did not make any further purchases during 2017, I was aware that a CDP can nip at the heels of a vinyl set up, or even surpass it.
In 2018, I purchased a Custom Built DAC, a valve power regulated and valve output stage, based on the 1541 Chip.
This took the CDP experience to another level. I was very satisfied with this purchase.
With the CDP doing so well through a DAC, I was becoming interested in Transports and a few used models were on my radar.
There was vinyl day at the HiFi Clubs meeting, I was attending and took along the Custom Built DAC, just to see if I could get a go with it on the system, after a long day of listening to vinyl, I got my chance to put the DAC in action, it was connected by digital coax to the PWT,
I was quite impressed and immediately formed the view that the PWT was a cut above a CDP being used as a transport.
As a result I intensified my investigations of used CDT's and was in possession of a Shortlist with a maximum purchase price of £1500.
I was aware of Jay's CDT models, and very aware of the PWT, RIGHTLY or WRONGLY, I was single minded on the PWT, and a little bit apprehensive of other Brands.
A option on a purchase of a pick up only PWT become available as a used sale item. It was sold to me for a very fair asking price, and I was fortunate to receive assistance with picking the device up.
It has been in use and much enjoyed, it has been auditioned by a group of five, with the DAC at a valve rolling day, and got a favorable but mixed reception about its presentation.
I have recently discovered that a local HiFi Dealer has Jay's CDT's in their possession, so after reading all the previous posts, I am curious to set up a trial between the two, using my DAC, and the dealers recommended DAC.
If it is of any interest, I had a good communication with the PWT Vendor, and asked the inevitable question, " Why is it for sale ", he said he was using a Primare DVD Player as well,
and it was hard to distinguish the SQ between the two, so he was settling for the more versatile player, and did not see the need for running two players parallel.
@teajay

@acresverde

@garrard

Man, I’m trying to remember the last time someone got so bent out of shape because someone didn’t post a review. Amazing.

@teajay is so available to so many that I guess some people believe they are owed real-time instantaneous access. Anyway, my guess is they have already purchased the transport and they want @teajay to validate their decision or....they are sitting someplace waiting for @teajay’s review to tell them its ok for them to go out and purchase it. In either case, what a shame. To resort to profanity because he didn’t respond to you in the timeframe you deemed appropriate?

What’s happened to the esprit de corps that used to permeate the hobby?

@pindac
I would be very interested in your findings, if you are able to do this comparison between the PWT and Jay’s CDT. Please return here and let us know how it goes. Thanks.
@teajay
You started all the interest in the CDT2 Mk2 with this very thread and I have been asking you for more than 6 months when the review will be posted on "Home Theater".

You never even had the decency to post to this thread that you will not be posting a review.

Therefore I'm pissed-off.
@garrard

Why are you so bent out of shape that a review didn’t materialize? @teajay moved from HTReview to 6moons and 6moons may or may not have wanted to review the transport (again). Maybe the original review belonged to HTReview and they chose to shelve it? Things happen.

While it isn’t my place to convince you to be rational, your anger is simply hard to understand. Are you somehow associated with the company and you were counting on the review to create more awareness for the product? Are you waiting to make a purchase decision and you were waiting on the opinion of a total stranger to decide?

I love this hobby but maybe you should take a step back and realize most people post their thoughts and findings about various equipment to be of assistance to their fellow forum members....this is how @teajay started out...just like the rest of us. It would be appropriate at this time for you to realize he owes you nothing...not a reply, not a review, nothing. If HE chooses to communicate with you and you are civil, you might get some interesting info from him directly but if I were him, after seeing some of your posts, I might not bother to communicate with you.
@ghasley
Why are you the knight in shining armour coming to the rescue?

I love the way people like you always come up with a conspiracy theory,
Ha Ha Ha.
@garrard

“Knight in shining armor”, gee, thanks!

Its actually not a conspiracy theory, its a query. Many fair minded people would love to know why you are so upset at not getting to read another review about another silver disc transport. Seriously, have you thought for a moment that the review may have been penned while he was under contract/agreement to HTReview, that it may NOT be within @teajay’s power to release it to the public?

In any event, I wish more people would chime in when others are aggressively being unkind or unreasonable.

Dr. John. Mike Powell Audio is the US distributor of the Jay’s Audio product line. At least that is where I obtained my CDT2 MK2.

@jriggy I heard the Jays transport with the terminator DAC over the weekend.  The person had the PS Audio transport and matching DAC.  He sold the PS audio to go with the Jays set-up.  I did not hear them so I do not have a personal opinion.  I did hear the PS Audio prior to the person getting the Jays set-up and I was not very impressed.  That being said, there are plenty of used at that was once high prices that you can buy cheap today that will compete with the Jays audio set-up.  For instance, I picked up a Metronome and a Audiomeca transports that IMO are better than the Jays transport.  More musical, deeper soundstage less digital sounding (maybe SS sounding) and more relaxed for digital reproduction.  $500 each.

Happy Listening.
