Ian McDonald of King Crimson and Foreigner dies at 75 RIP

For me it was the first King Crimson album; the one thing that immediately struck me besides how great it all sounded was the intricacy and power of the drumming. Almost always among the most important positions in a prog-rock band is the drummer, I think. Bill Bruford indeed, and of course the brilliant Phil Collins among them.

 Donald and Giles is the one that started me down the prog rock path.

     Truly a huge loss.  A founder of King Crimson.  What a clarinet, flute, saxophone player( woodwind and reeds) along with mellotron, keyboards guitar and songwriter of eclectic and beautiful progressive music.  He played all keyboards and mellotron in addition to reeds and woodwind on ITCOTKC. Ian was involved in the songwriting on every song from this release and wrote the instrumental parts to I talk to the Wind and In the Court of the Crimson King solely with Peter Sinfield writing lyrics. RIP Sir McDonald.  Your music and spirit live on!

The musicians in this band over the years are wonderful.

I guess the only member of the band I ever thought of was Mick Jones ..

Ian has returned to "The Court of the Crimson King."

My favorite cut from the LP which he wrote.

He is playing the cool break with the mellotron/flute in the piece.

Played LOUD last night.

+1 @pesky_wabbit and the pace of that frequency increases until it becomes a single note.

it‘s rather sobering reaching an age when people familiar to you start leaving this world with alarming frequency.

Love Crimson, despise Foreigner. Sad to hear about Ian. Still have my scratched up Columbia Record Club edition of McDonald & Giles.

Definitely not the Clashes Mick Jones lol. 

I didn't realize he had anything to do with Foreigner - I guess the only member of the band I ever thought of was Mick Jones (not the Clash's Mick Jones)....  RIP indeed...
