how to transfer vinyl to digital

Hi all - I have a very basic question about transferring some of my vinyl to digital on my Mac, and then to my iPhone.....

Do I just need some rca cables from my phono pre-amp to a USB on my Mac? So basically RCA to USB cable. And then a converter program - like Audacity on my Mac?

Seems way too easy :-)

I remember in the late 70s borrowing albums from friends and copying them onto cassette.  I was very poor and some of these cassettes got played a thousand times.

not what I recommend now but I shared it anyway.  Hope not to derail your thread.

You wanna transfer analog to digital? That’s what ADCs are for. The Behrigers are decent starters

Audacity is for recording/editing digital after you get there.

ADC list:

1.5 Lake People ADC RS 04 Analog Digital Converter

4.0 Prism SoundTitan

8.0 QES Labs – PAD-2

8.6 emm labs adc8 mk iv

? ACOUSENCE system 193

This is everything you need including software:

ezcap216 USB Audio Capture | ezcap  $12 on eBay

OR

DIGITNOW USB Audio Capture Card Grabber for Vinyl Cassette Tapes to Digital MP3 Converter, Support Mac & Windows 10/8.1/8 / 7 / Vista/XP     $16 on amazon

On Amazon for like 200 bucks they have a turntable with usb and Bluetooth out. That could be a simple way, temporary swap out.
