How to get KT90s tested

KT99's were rebranded by Gold Aero and I believe KT91's were rebranded by VTL. I have TT99's and KT99A's that are both Gold Aero. The KT99A's do say premium where the KT99's do not

Do you have a local Audio shop or dealer (better if they sell tube gear)my bet is they will have a tester or know of one locally you can get them tested at.  

A resistor broke and a PS wire melted its insulation with smoke was the fail mode when I turned it on.  

It takes a bit of current to melt insulation on a wire! That suggests a short- I suspect the power tubes had nothing to do with it.

Thank you for replies.  Jadis installed the KT120s after the power supply repair.  I myself have doubts about the KT90 valves taking our the power supply hence the test request.  (I say KT90 because I think KT99 are just selected KT90s but I may be wrong). @andrew31829 In the above post replace ’plate resistor’ with ’cathode or screen resistor’. But the idea that the tubes took out the power supply because they were bad and yet the power supply is rated to handle the higher powered KT120s doesn’t sit well with me.

I say this because it was Jim that first told me about the Ei KT90's and would not sell me any of his. I know he knows a lot regarding those tubes. I did find several quads of them and to me they were my go to tube. I had an Octave V110 which ran a higher plate voltage for the KT120 and it could be switched for lower plate voltages to be used for 6550's KT88's even El34's. FWIW I liked the sound at the higher plate voltage. It is a very strong tube.

That said I know nothing regarding Jadis but would think if you had a bad tube I would think it will take out a plate resistor and not the power supply. That said the Version 1 of KT90's had a real problem with the plate glowing red before burning out. The Version 2 was much better per Jim.
