HiFiaholics Anonomous!

Good Morning fellow HiFiaholics.  I, too, have a HiFi adiction.  There, I said it...

Woo! Yes, I'M A HIFIAHOLIC!

I only recently discovered my problem with HiFi when I encountered a hi level of anxiety over the fact that my system is down... for at least 5 days!  FIVE WHOLE DAYS!!

And in my anxiety I paniced!  I purchased, and probably overpaid, for a virtually new McIntosh C2800 preamp because the preowned C2700 I purchased had issues.  Yes, true - it wouldn't put out - I'm sure you can relate.  NO, not like that!  Just the Main output wouldn't output - 1&2 were fine, she was fine and sounded good, but how could I keep her if she didn't put out?

Sure, she sounded delightful - detailed and was fast and deep - but only when using 1&2.

Fortunately the seller agreed to take her back but issued only a partial refund at first.  He owed me $3,000, but that fact wasn't the source of my anxiety at all. And when he paid it back the anxiety didn't go away!  See?

NO!  It was the thought of living WITHOUT beautiful, full, warm music that was the source of my anxiety!

Oh sure, I have my office system, but she's second tier.

And then it dawned on me how important my primary system preamp was!  That surely justified dropping ANOTHER $7,500 to get one of the only C2800's on the market fo minimize my down time!!

Right?

RIGHT??

Thanks for listening, brother HiFiaholics...

Actually, I identify as an “audiophobe.”

Too many speakers haven’t lived up to my expectations!

you have a big budget for just a preamp. I may be anxious up there too.

Feel you, thought my amp was going out, panicked, drove 8 hours to pick up another pre & power amp. Got home hooked it up, to find that when my sub was added that the left cable was put in reverse polarity frown.

My setup was in fact perfect, just me not paying attention, it was that way for a few harrowing weeks.
