Some cool things you can do with fuses. This is very hush hush 🤫 so use at your own discretion. Color the Contact portion of the end caps purple/violet with Sharpie marker. Place fuse(s) in home freezer for 48 hours. Remove and let slow thaw in refrigerator for two hours, reinsert fuse. Try each fuse both ways obviously, one fuse at a time, even if stock fuse. |
There are many ways to improve whatever fuse you have. We’ve covered this many times. You can even improve the performance of ordinary stock Fuses. All it takes is the energy necessary to get up off your BarcaLounger and a little uh, ingenuity. You don’t even have to be an expert Reverse Engineer. 🔙 As Bob Dylan is fond of saying at the end of his records, good luck to everyone! 🤗 |
I'll never spend the prices SR charge. But I do agree that fuses make a difference. I tried a $40 Furatech rhodium but it was too bright/steely. Try this. I've done it and was amazed at the improvement. Wrap a few turns of masking tape around the glass part of the fuse ensuring it does not touch the metal caps. Worst case, it may indicate if the PSU responds to fuse adjustments. |
imhififan If you don’t hear the difference, consider yourself fortunate you don’t need to spend the money to upgrade fuses and buy more music instead. No one need to have "golden ears" to enjoy this hobby! Could be my ears, or maybe all my electronics have well design power supply no need upgrade fuses to sound its best. >>>>The problem for fuse skeptics is everybody hears a difference. It’s hard to argue with 100,000 who can hear fuses. Well, except for a few outliers. Congratulations on hVe one of Have you considered getting your ears candled? 🕯 |

I have Synergistic Research Orange fuses throughout my system. Before that it was Blue. Both are so clearly directional, and better than Buss, that I have to believe anyone unable to hear this should seriously consider another hobby. Can't speak for any others, haven't tried Hi-Fi Tuning, but Blue and Orange are very good value for money. Except for the ones inside my Verus turntable motor controller. There's two in there and the improvement is so slight I would have sent them back, were it not for the fact they were freebies included when buying something else. So imagine, a guy who can hear directionality, hear fuses, and is even able to evaluate their relative performance in different components. Why make up a story like that? I'm sure the deniers will come up with something. |
No I did not vusi, but SME overbuilds their equipment and I trust their engineers not to do anything that would downgrade their performance especially something as silly as a cheap fuse. Audiophiles are constantly looking for relatively inexpensive ways to improve the performance of their equipment. My approach has always been not to take short cuts and save money to upgrade important things like cartridges, speakers and amps. |
Vusi- I’m a huge proponent, when it comes to experimenting with various upgrades/components and trusting in one’s own ears, to determine efficacy. Virtually nothing in my systems, has ever remained in a stock configuration, through the last four-five decades, based on various scientific/electrical theories, some choose to ignore. Even so; I have no reason to believe changing the fuses, in a turntable’s power supply, would result in an audible improvement. If you want to explore the possibility, at a much lower cost than HI-FI Tuning’s best; Parts Connexion is selling the Classic Gold fuses, steeply discounted. They were the first, that I’d tried in my equipment, years ago and did provide obvious, audible improvements. An inexpensive way to satisfy your curiosity: https://www.partsconnexion.com/hifi-tuning-classic-gold-fuses.html |
