Front ported or sealed monitors for shop

Finally getting around to setting up my basement woodworking shop and need some speakers.  Room is app. 12' x 30' x 7' ceiling.  Due to layout will be mounting on the short wall, possibly on small shelves.  Would like something with good dispersion as I will never really be in the sweet spot.

Not looking for anything fancy, maybe $5 -$600 budget?  Did a search here and many expensive models mentioned.  Certainly don't want anything pricey just to have it get all full of sawdust!  Internet search shows a few Elac or Wharfedale models may be promising.

Just found a pair of Boston acoustics A100 sealed design for $225 near me.  Might work but probably too big.

Thanks

Thanks mesch.  Interestingly, I traded in a pair of 686 a few years ago for a phono pre.  They were rear ported though so would not have worked.  The hunt is on!
One option, Look for a used pair of B&W 685s. Should not cost more than $350. Front ported, work fine on a shelf, Would fill room with sound.
Thanks all. Yes, been considering building my own as well.  Would be fitting for the workroom right?  Looked at the GR Research site but nothing front ported or sealed.  I will peruse the others, thanks for the links.

Multiple speakers might be the way to go at some future point.  Good idea!

About to cut up a gorgeous chunk of solid 10/4 Maple for my first amp stand.  Measure 10x and cut once!
Absolutely, build them.
Here are some designs for Mark Audio drivers, and there are loads more of course.

We built my son’s monitors for his studio using Mark Audio’s Alpair 11MS drivers in a solid cherrywood cabinet made by his grandad. Ported and they go pretty low, 50hz, so a sub in a corner helps at time. But they are shallow and fit on his work desk easily. They sound fantastic, and being (very nearly) full range with no crossover they are particularly good for monitoring the mid-range.
Stefan at KJF Audio is fantastically helpful and stocks everything you need.

Workshop?  Why not build a kit? :)   Great low cost kits you won't feel bad about getting dirty.

I would avoid ports in a space with dust. weatherproof outdoor speakers might be the best choice.

7' ceiling is low. Hung ceiling? You might consider 4 or 6 ceiling mounted speakers, it's about content, not imaging. Think long, you can start with 2 and add later. Think about wall mounted volume control for each pair.

Dispersion is primarily about the tweeters, as high frequencies are narrow. If your preamp has vintage features, i.e. tone controls, options for 2 pairs of speakers, mode switch to use mono.

You can build a box for your equipment to minimize dust in, get heat out, perhaps a hinged door front and back with a washable filter like forced air furnaces have.
