… first and last post

Someone recently said asr's this week's class d performer of merit have the members n a tizzy. If it's this one:

It's actually a 4415 or 4412 or something, Amir was too lazy to not cut and paste something properly, as usual.

Anyway, if it is all about the numbers then -75db thd at 30 W won't cut it.

This is the guy at a company called Boxem Audio who assembled an amp for testing at ASR previously with a difference of 20db betwwen the left and right channels for 60,120hz noise (I forget which) and no real concern for objective measurements from the knowledgeable shills/stooges or the newbie hangers-on with their borderline retarded sinad is everything mentality.

Amir made his point to the sceptical here and gave up when the 2 or 3 dopes that have continued this thread far past it's interest continued to ask the dumbest questions possible that would have alienated even the most accomodating personality. Keep up the good work :)

To make a point, Amir is a 'the science is settled' kind of guy. Even though, as    indicated with my above example, his steadfast opinion that digital components should be tested outside of their linear (or specified) range and this is an indication of comparable performance is his club foot.

Granted, he will, now, show when a dac or avr won't reach 0dbfs without clipping and the optimum level for a creditable measurement yet he still seems to be confused about when he should or should not take this into consideration. He also continues to test phono preamps without using the AP inverse RIAA component in curcuit to save us from having to constantly interpret the overload levels from his stupid graphs.

The Amir who is knowledgeable is not the same Amir who runs the test reviews on the site.

Even though I was banned from the site one of the members there who's reputation and technical opinion is unimpeachable (to me) and often at odds with Amir's novice level testing methods, @pma is still there so only a matter of time will show up Amir's ineptitude or a tail between his legs admission that he doesn't know everything or has learned something.

It isn't all bad, the constant retort from members like @sarumbear to demand  double blind A/b/x this or that when anyone makes a claim of preference or the sycophantic apologizing from member @doodski right after disagreeing with Amir's latest botch job of measuring something (asr does not review audio components) is the height of entertainment. Unfortunately, the knowledge and expertise of so many of the members there is something that anyone serious about audio can not avoid if economy and stripping the pomp  and circumstance from real measurement or subjective opinion.

The idea that the forum is strictly measurements is stupid. You can't stop anyone from giving a personal opinion about their equipment and nbody at asr does that not even the mods, for the most part.

Anyway it's obvious that, even if everything I said is disagreeable to you, Amir is probably the kind of opinionated stiff that none of us would invite over for dinner and an enlightened conversation.

@larabee , since the other thread closed let’s move it over to ASR’s forum and continue the convo, I am sure Amir will host after now we are all better acquainted. This thread closed after about 1600 posts. I’ll bet ASR would close it down in less than 50 posts. How long do you think it would last?

It may have been restorer-john and not doodski over at asr  who is the sycophant.

(just my luck that the member here I would least want to interact with is the first to respond)

so much for the 'last' post :) oh, well. No sensible person would take these forums seriously anyway. All good fun.

Two posts

First..last .. and another last.

Amir has his own website and can run it as he sees fit.  I don't visit his site so he doesn't impact my life.  I wish both him and OP the best.

I recently read a review of a Japanese external clock on ASR. The very first comment was a poem:

———-

Who’s the grey external clock
That’s a jitter machine to all the DACs?
CyberShaft, ya, damn right

Who is the man that would risk jitter
For his stereo, man?
CyberShaft, can you dig it?

Who’s the audiofool that will pay out
When there’s money to waste?
CyberShaft, right on

They say this CyberShaft is a bad external
Shut your mouth
But I’m talkin’ ’bout CyberShaft
Then we can trash it

It’s an external clock
That no one understands but @amirm
CyberShaft

I thought the poetry was silly. Something someone in North Korea singing to the glorious leader would write. But then, I observed it had 65 likes. Meaning stuff like that is popular, exactly what science should be.

Thyname, the "poetry" is actually taken from the soundtrack for the "black exploitation movie" Shaft. The song was done in 1971 by Isaac Hayes. The real words: Who’s the black private dick That’s a sex machine to all the chicks? Shaft, ya, damn right Who is the man that would risk his neck For his brother man? Shaft, can you dig it? Who’s the cat that won’t cop out When there’s danger all about? Shaft, right on They say this cat Shaft is a bad mother Shut your mouth But I’m talkin’ ’bout Shaft Then we can dig it He’s a complicated man But no one understands him but his woman John Shaft

OK then. The poetry is justified. Totally scientific. Glory Glory Hail Hail dear Leader!
