Mephisto & Co on Reference Recordings |
Mark Knopfler "Golden Heart," (among others already posted above.) |
Try the following: - Shirley Eikhard- Going Home - Lucinda Williams- Car Wheels on a Dirt Road - Fairfield Four- I couln't hear nobody pray - Dimeola, Mclaughlin and Delucia- Friday night in San Francisco, reissue - Chris Issak- Baja Sessions |
Cyrus Chestnut "Cyrus Chestnut" is superb bop jazz, very easy to like, even for non-jazzers. Lots of good music, and stunning recording quality.
Stephen Stills "Stephen Stills" is vintage rock, the only album to have Stills, Hendrix, and Clapton. Pretty crappy sound originally, but beautiful remastering with HDCD brings it back to life. |
Alannah Davis- 'Blame it on Me' |
Thanks for your responses, keep 'em coming!
Question: are all of the Dave Brubeck cd's in HDCD?? for example, his cd entitled 'plays and plays and...' is on sale for .99 on cdhq.com. is this one good, and is it in HDCD??
also, what about "this is jazz, vol.39: dave brubeck plays standards" ?
do all of the Columbia/Legacy cd's use HDCD?? the first one I mentioned is under Fantasy records. all of the others I see(including time out) are Columbia/Legacy.
thanks for input,

If you're into Garca/Grisman, the "Pizza Tapes" with Garcia, Grisman and Tony Rice is amazing. BTW, that's with an non HDCD player. |
yup, someone is making me a copy of that one that I will get this weekend...:):) very excited! BTW, copies of HDCD's work just as originals do
Thanks for the input,

keep 'em coming, ps...please include some notes about the CD's (genre esp) as I haven't heard of a lot of these guys |
Madisonears, just want to agree with you that the first Steven Stills solo album on Atlantic, is way better on HDCD than the first issued CD, but stills(pun intended) not as good as the first pressed LP. Steven Stills: MANASSAS double LP Set, is also highly recomendable on the single CD HDCD remaster. Overall my favorite Stills Record ever. Creativity Galore!! Musical value in SPADES.......Frank |
Don't Look Back- John Lee Hooker The Doors Studio Box Set |
Mmmm, I don't know about that LP--I had it, and mine sucked. Noisy, lots of distortion, etc. Current HDCD is like a window compared to it.
I've always wondered about Manassas. Don't know why I've never tried it, but I guess I will now. Thanks for the tip. |
Dire Straits- Money For Nothing(best of) TOOL- Lateralus Bryan Ferry- Mamouna Mickey Hart- Mystery Box |
Just a follow-up if you want to check if a particular release was ever HDCD encoded you can go to www.hdcd.com. There is a complete listing there. Also, if you go there and select "shop" and then go to CDNOW through there you frequently get a $5 coupon off a $20 or more order (at least I did twice). |
grumpybb....i'm so glad you mentioned mickey hart. i've had that cd for probably 5 years, and haven't listened to it in 4.5! awesome cd, great to get back into it after all this time.
thanks for the post
