Does benchmark dac sound good if don't like oppo dac sound?

Hi,

I am more of a vinyl guy but enjoy for ten plus years playback designs mps5.

I have oppo as transport with mps5 as well as one oppo 105 for bedroom listening.

I tried oppo 105 with hugo qutest didn’t find much improvement.

I like chord MOJO for portable though

I thought chord hugo tt2 too bright

I tried 105 with mscaler and liked it but too much $ for bedroom system.

Would benchmark dac make oppo sound better or are dacs too similar.

Other idea was bryston bd3 or try denfrips pontus?

I don’t think the Benchmark will work for you. The R2R DACs have been gaining favor among those who are looking for a more analog-like sound, so the Pontus is likely a good choice as is the Soekris DAC1421 that is a bargain IMO at about $900.  Past that, you may want to skew toward DACs that use an AK chip as opposed to ESS, and in that realm the Gustard A18 or A22 are worth exploring.  Just some other ideas off the top of my head FWIW, and best of luck in your search.
Qutest is considered by many to be warmer thank Mytek and Benchmark.  So I doubt you will like either the Mytek or Benchmark better if you found the Qutest too bright. It sounds like your listening priorities are more dialed into the way you have your vinyl rig set up.  The only way I have found to approach what it sounds like you're seeking is to move towards a tube DAC.
