Celtic Thunder

Are there any fans of Celtic Thunder on this forum? I think their shows are a bit cheesey, but I really enjoy most of their music. Unfortunately, their most recent concert Storm is nearing rock bottom. The music is actually worse than It's Entertainment and the show is absolutely horrible. Why can't they stick with singing Celtic music which is what they do best. I'm starting to understand why several of the members are moving on from the group.

I'm looking forward to more solo albums from Paul Byrom.

Slippery slope here. IF you enjoy Celtic Thunder then well......okay. It strays far from authentic Celtic roots. If you wish to engage the real essence of the form, then find public radio's Fiona Ritchie and her program "The Thistle and Shamrock". She is quite knowledgable and will cast great light upon the subject every week.

A starter kit would be Altan, Loreena McKennitt, Connie Dover, Silly Wizard, The Chieftains, Donal Lunny, Capercaillie, Dougie MacLean, Christy Moore and the lot. Hope this is helpful.
Natalie MacMaster "In My Hands", Eileen Ivers "Crossing the Bridge", great albums by creative fiddle artists. Two favorites in current rotation.
I would add Maura O'Connell, Dolores Keane, and Mary Black to the artists already mentioned.
Horslips, now that's Celtic rock! And don't forget early Thin Lizzy and Rory Gallagher for some bluesy stuff.
You should watch the Out of Ireland DVD.
The Pogues, Clannad (and Enya), U2, the Corrs, the Cranberries, Van Morrison, Loreena McKennitt are all essential, as well as the already listed.
The only Horslips album I have is "The Book of Invasions...." which is a good listen.

Thank you
I didn't say anything about Celtic Thunder being authentic or that I didn't enjoy other celtic groups, just that I enjoy a lot of their music.

If their format was to simply stand in a line and sing I suspect more people would enjoy listening to them.

I have one SACD with the Chieftains, but I can't say that it's one of my favorites.
Horslips. Yes! have not thought about or listened to them in awhile.

Need to go spin "The Book of Invasions" tonight.

Good stuff!
More traditional than rock styling, but try Temple Records artists: Battlefield Band, Alison Kinnaird, Christine Primrose...
