Demo the cables and compare. Get a third brand in there for completeness. The cable company landing library is a good source. All you will get here is recommendations on what people have in their system. No one has your exact setup.
Cardas or Audioquest for this System
I have the system listed below and I am about to purchase interconnects (XLR) and speaker cables.
I’m on the fence between Cardas Clear interconnects and cables OR Audioquest Thunderbird interconnects and cables - can you guys offer reasons why to pick one over the other?
If I go the audioquest route I’m planning to get the full spectrum thunderbird speaker cables with audioquest jumpers. Not going to do the biwire configuration.

Nagel, great points you've made. Let me say this and maybe it will help. I have tried Cardas Clear Reflection interconnects with my system paired with cheaper $200 speaker cables and was disappointed. I then borrowed a pair of Clear Reflection Speaker cable and it sounded WAY better - BUT, it seemed to not be quite as dynamic as I'd hope and there could also be a little to much harshness (occasionally, not all the time) on the top end. I spoke to someone at cardas who told me that the reflection cables were designed for low efficiency speakers and that he wouldn't reccomend it for klipsch high effeciency cornwalls. Then i started looking into the audioquest stuff because i wanted more dynamics. But what you said about losing top end, that doesn't seem like something I want. You mentioned you liked cardas - what cardas interconnect and speaker cable would you suggest with these components? |
Good luck @hifi_jed_1986 , I would've advised Cardas, but it depends on your preferences. Pass and Klipsch suggest your tastes are different from mine since they are laid back, especially in the treble. I crave extreme detail but with an EQ that's slightly bass heavy with good treble extension (hard to achieve wo EQ). I own both cables in XLR and have Cardas Clear in speaker cables. My 0.75M Thunderbird XLR is fantastic except it kills too much treble and what I call the leading edge of detail. I've unplugged the dbs battery to make it halfway between an AQ dbs cable and more normal cable, and I still plan to sell it when I can get another used Clear or Clear Beyond. The biggest downside to Cardas Clear speaker cables is a slight restriction to dynamics compared to a more open cable geometry like Wireworld Eclipse 7 that I had before. If you find the AQ too dead for your system and ears, Cardas would be a great change without going to detailed and bright cables. I've heard a number of people I greatly respect tell me they were unconvinced about the need for a full loom of matching cables that have since changed their mind. At least the interconnects and speakers cables should be similar. |
@hifi_jed_1986 Wise decision!!! Happy listening. |
