Black Blackground for Monoblocks

I recently upgraded my Octave stereo RE320 to the Octave MRE220s and really like the better separation and more power that the monos bring.

I had my stereo amp plugged in to Stromtank 1000 and even though I lost a little bit of dynamics I found the stromtank provider a terrific quiet, black background and better image separation for the amp. Now that I have the monos I tried to do the same but I believe they are pulling too much current because I’ve found a pretty substantial reduction in dynamics even though the background is quiet. I’ve decided to plug the monos direct in to the wall which sounds great except you can tell they are just not as quiet as they use to be.

I’d like to find a way to bring that quiet background back without compromising dynamics. Since I have mostly audioquest dragon and Hurricane powercord my dealer recommended that I buy a Audioquest Niagara 5000 and plug it in to the stromtank. I can then utilize the high current outlets on that for the monos.

I don’t know if I want to go that direction or not and have been considering trying the Nordost Qkore or the Chord Company GroundAray devices. They seem to have good reviews.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

I’m using a equi core CPT unit, balanced power isolation transformer with my amp. Plenty of power, no noise..  My power amp is class A and only draws 180 watts, So I have 10x the rated output of the amp. No limiting power issues when proper sizing is used..  CMR, common mode rejection is proven and not snake oil.

The Equi=Tech 2Q or a CPT Deep Core 1800 might work, you would have to experiment plugging directly into the wall AC 20 amp outlet vs the your Stromtank 1000. I have some friends that report great results with the Niagara 5000. Regardless of the changes you might make is the Stromtank 1000 large enough to adequately handle all of your needs?

Doesn't Octave make upgraded power supplies, Black Box? Maybe try that if you're not already.

I have the super black box on both of the amps, but still hear a reduction in dynamics when plugged in the Stromtank.   I'd love to upgrade to a S2500 or even a larger Stromtank, but don't have the room or the funds at the moment.   Definitely on the radar, though.

I have an older v1 Equi-core 1800 that I'm using on my AV equipment in my living room.   I'll give that a try and the Deep Core 1800 sounds interesting.   MikeM - If you are using your 1800 with a Class A amp then I would imagine it should work my monos.

Appreciate everyone's suggestions!

Now we do not have to say 2 words. We can be good enough with only one: Blackground!

I salute!
