Best upgrade for a REGA RP 3

Hi folks,

What’s a better upgrade: a cartridge (say the Exact), or a roughly equal expense on a phone preamp??  Current setup is: RP3>Arcam A19> Energy C7 floorstanders.

My point of view is to improve the 'weakest' link in your analog chain - the table/tone arm, cartridge or phone stage.

Do you have the opportunity to listen to both and see what is preferable to you?

Neither - the best upgrade for any rega is an Audiomods arm. It makes any rega TT sing. Then you can look at other upgrades because only then will you be hearing how the cartridge and phono stage is actually capable of..

I invested in an Audiomods series three 12 years ago and I have never looked back - truly astonishing - and the new arms are even better

My cartridge is a Denon DL 103 modified by Soundsmith and my Phono stage is a Simaudio Moon LP5.3 RS - both are an outstanding combination with this arm

I have a rega P3 in the basement on my second system. I both a set of Mail and sub platters from Michael LIM, and a mega white belt. I am running a Goldring Eroica XL MC cart, with a Lab 12 Phono stage, the result is very nice.

This is off topic but, wanted to offer up something that might be beneficial to you. Assuming your Arcam is the FMJ-A19, I have some experience with it in a family member's system. I found that a particular DIY Furutech power cord works very well with the Arcam. The wire is the FP-TCS21 and the ends are the FI-11 copper.
