'Twas I. MP1- and MA-2 - had PAD Dominus i/c worth about $10,000. Changed to Mogami at $100 and sounded just as good. Sold the Dominus the next day.
Best Cables for Atma-Sphere MA-1 MP-1 combination
Hi and thanks for looking into my post. I received a lot of enthusiastic responses for my other post ''Atma-Sphere MA-1 Mk.3.1 Vs. Atma-Sph. MA-2 Mk.3.1'' and would like to thank everyone who helped me there. My next question is this:
What is the best cable set (PC, IC, Speaker) tu use with a Atma-Sphere MA-1 Mk.3.1 and MP-1 Mk.3 (w phono)combination. From my research, I read Ralph does not think his customers should spend a lot of money on HiFi cables...Here is what was written on another forum:
''After trying a few experiments between the MP-1 preamp and the MA-2 amps we determined that there are differences between cables and they are significant. The good news is that the best sounding cable we have been able to find is regular quad-shielded mic cable. Cheap, cheap, cheap! In fact, anything that we have tried which would be considered an audiophile cable does more harm than good.
Save your cash and spend it elsewhere. I know Ralph says this and it's not that I don't believe him, I just wanted to have some fun and see if I could hear any difference. Yes I can - it just doesn't mean the sound is better.
There was a fellow on Audiogon a few years back who was using the same pre-amp and amp and he had some SUPER expensive, highly regarded cable and he did the same test and arrived at the same conclusion. Mic cable is the way to go. ''
I am wondering who this audiogon user is and would love to have his feedback on this...

Thank you Spring...I researched Mogami and you know what? The canadian distributor is about a ten minute walk from my home!! I guess I have to try them out! Kind and warmest regards to all who have posted. I am grateful for all your opinions and experiences!! I will let you know how this is going to go and share my experiences... |
I suggest you check out WyWires. They will be the live/playback partner with Atma and VMPS for T.H.E. Show/CES 2011 Las Vegas. I don't have Atma gear but I do have Alex's ICs (RCA). I found them to offer the most clean and clear sound without anomalies. Beat out other similarly priced cables in my system from Kimber, Harmonic Tech, and Cardas. Robert Levi recently rated them best in price class. And they are having a tour right now. See if you can get in on it. Even if not, Alex offers a 60-day trial! And act quickly to save money ... from his web site: Through December 31, 2010, WyWires will accept a trade-in on your old cable toward a WyWires cable of the same type. Trade-in value will be between 20 to 35% of your current cable when new, depending on condition. Here's how it works...we send you the new cable, you pay us via PayPal - the 60-day trial begins. If you would like to trade in your old cable, we will rebate you the value upon review of the old cable. http://www.wywires.com/ |
I did not get to the distributor yet, but according to the Mogami website, we are talking about the Gold Studio Mic cable Model 2534. The website (www.mogamicable.com) gives the following info on this cable: 1-Wired with neglex studio quad 2-Terminated with black body 3 pin XLR connectors and gold contacts 3-lifetime warranty and available in 2,3,6,15,25, or 50 ft. |
I second Rockadanny with a caveat-- Generally speaking, I prefer the older iteration of Wywires interconnects. With my Atma-sphere S-30 handling amplification duties, the v2s offer a better synergy. These are the versions that address Bob Levi's concerns and I believe these are the ones that Atma-Sphere will be wired with at T.H.E. Show. |

I don't understand why Amta_Sphere would be using Wywires at T.H.E Show when he states again and again in these threads that when used together his products negate the effects of wire. Perhaps it has more to do with the fact its Brian Cheney's room and more of a VMPS thing. Otherwise I agree it's contradicts Ralph's theory on cables used between his preamps and amps. |
