Best 12AU7 tube for PS Audio Monos

The reviews of the PS Audio M1200 mono amps have been uniformly positive except for the character of the treble which has been given so so marks by most reviewers.  However, there has been little commentary on whether replacement of the Pavane 12AU7 input tube may ameliorate this deficiency.  PS audio personnel have suggested that the amp can be improved with more expensive 12AU7's but like most manufacturers will not comment on which tubes they are referring to.  I would appreciate input from audiophiles who have actually tried different 12AU7's in this amp.

The best 12au7 type tube I've ever used was an Amperex 7316. Sweet, softened the edges without losing detail.

Another good one is Mullard cv4003 (m8136 variant).

Sorry, I have no experience with the amp you are talking about, but I have tried many types of 12au7's in my Candela preamp.

In terms of new production, I would rate Psvane > Genelex Gold Lion > Mullard.

So you're looking at NOS, and thecarpathian's recommendations cannot be bettered.

There are so many different directions you can go in terms of sonics.

Brent Jessee is a NOS dealer with an excellent guide describing the different types of 12AU7s and their sonic signature.

You need to try the Psvane Art series tubes, not the cheaper ones. I am pretty satisfied with these.
