Basic switch....should I upgrade?

I'm using a D-Link switch into a EtherRegen (with an AfterDark PSU & Clock) via a Signature Ethernet Cable. Coming out of the EtherRegen I use a basic fiber optic cable into my streamer. (All connects/cables not mentioned are upgraded.)

Simply put, should I upgrade the switch or does the fantastic EtherRegen clean up the switch's audio shortcomings?

Please don't tell me to get a TT!

People should concentrate more on feeds directly out of modems. This is most common weak link I see...

I have tried to address the situation.

I have my modem attached to a modded Cisco 2960 switch. Then (Cat5?) ethernet cable running 10m (can't replace this cable unfortunately) to an ethernet outlet.

Have a Lan isolator connected to the outlet to a modded Cisco SG110D switch, then another Lan isolator connected to streamer.

That may address some of the issues.

Now you have stated your opinion (many times), there is no need for you to post any more. Thank you for your views.

Plugged in my modded network switch over the weekend.

A Cisco SG110D-8. Modded by adding a C4Mk2 clock from Fidelity Audio.
Also added a new DDC, USB cable, LAN isolators, and ethernet cables to the system.

Initially couldn’t get sound from the streamer over ethernet. Switched to wifi to check connections/settings. Got it working. Had a quick listen. Back to ethernet, and an immediate and big improvement in sound. Upon further listening, it was ’jaw dropping,’

At some stage will evaluate the switch on its own, but as part of a whole, brilliant.

Bought a cheap switch Cisco SG110D-08 on EBay UK.

Getting a clock installed for this by fidelityaudio.co.uk

Sent to me (not in the UK).

Way cheaper than any other option I could see for an audiophile switch.

Also bought a Cisco 2960 and was upgraded by audiophool.nl

I’ve read lots. Reviews. Audio forums. Watched a few Youtube videos as well.

The people I want to listen to say yes.

I tend to ignore the likes of Cakehole. He says no. Old school. He tells us to stand in the corner.

@vinylvalet

The first switch was a Cisco 2960. Had mods done by audiophool.nl

Last month bought a Cisco SG110D switch. I needed one with a small footprint. Have sent it to Fidelity Audio in The UK. They have put one of their C4Mk2 clocks in it, and changed a couple of capacitors.

@ghdprentice

The weird situation I find myself in means  my system is down.

So have been adding to/changing my system. Which is why I haven't told you how these changes effects. Will get to try it in a couple of months.

One of the things Hans at Audiophool did on the Cisco 2960 was remove the internal power supplies and added a 5.5/2.1 dc connector for a linear power supply.

I had been considering a network switch for a while.

Bought a modded one from Audiophool.nl (he sold me a Ciso 2960).

When it arrived, I realised I needed something with a smaller footprint. Thought the 2960 could then go at the modem end of the house. Had been considering the Fidelizer Etherstream for its size and effectiveness.

Looked at buying the same switch - the Cisco SG110D - and getting it modded. Liked that it had a 12v input. Had been discussing options with Brent at fidelityaudio.co.uk for a few weeks. Noticed they had modded that model. Asked him about the Fidelizer mods. In his view the most effective ones were replacing a capacitor and adding a clock.

Decided to get the Fidelity Audio C4Mk2 installed at £290. Bought a cheap SG110D from eBay UK for £35. Had an old 12v Teradak linear power supply, with a Ghent Audio DC cable and a cheap AMR Gold fuse.
