ATC SCM40s- would you get subs?

I wonder whether others would add subs if they had these speakers, which only go down to 48.

Yes.  Absolutely.  But I’d add a pair (and preferably 4) and not just one sub.  What many people don’t realize is that subs add so much more than just bass.  There’s a ton of music hidden down in the lower octaves, such that the overall soundstage expands significantly and when you turn the subs off everything just shrinks and becomes less involving.  When set up properly, the difference a couple good subs can make is probably one of the biggest improvements you can make to your system.  IMHO.

“When set up properly” intimidates me. Does anyone ever hire someone to set them up?

My speakers go down to 35 and I still added a sub, it made a big difference. As for set up properly, It's simple, when the sub works/sounds/blends seamlessly with your main speakers, it's as if you don't even have a sub. I myself got a JL Audio sub as it has DSP built in, took me less then 20 minutes to have the sub blend with the speakers.

I've heard nothing but good things about using two or more subs, but I was limited to one. Just one was well worth it.
