Sherod, it takes years of fiddling with things to come up with meaningful improvements as cable design is primarily by ear and not by measurement....Finally found someone who would make higher purity silver starting with 99.99 silver cooked in a nitrogen atmosphere for days....That experiment turned out just great, but expensive....Had some speaker wire cryoed and it absolutely destroyed the wire so that experiment went awry.....No much new out there, but very few make products I would own and can only guess my priorities are very different than most of the cable guys.....I build cables to please myself and if they sell that is fine and if not that is OK as well.....

I have NBS Statement Interconnects and Professional speaker cables (these are from the older line, but at the top) and I think they are exceptionaly neutral. MIT and Transparent have electronics in them, so THEY MUST THROW AWAY some part of the signal and/or add some noise. Think about it: adding more parts CAN NOT add good signal, it can only take away. What part of your signal do you want tossed out? If you have a good front end, good amp, good speakers, and good power, then you want all of your signal. Thats how to get a low noise floor, not by throwing away the high or low end. I can't understand why people with great gear buy wires that throw away parts of their signal!!!

Sherod, you are darned right TG cables are crap as are all cables, but some are less crappy than others....I can only guess you saw little humor in my statement or maybe too much truth for your sensibilities....We cable guys do the best we can, but feel we are just scratching the surface of what is possible and to come....Exciting times.....

from left to right, NBS cabling gets leaner. But, they are not anywhere near
the tonal balance of, say, Nordost.

Classic series ----> Monitor series ----->Omega series
Omega series, to my ears, are the leanest amongst NBS offering.

Their flagship Black Label sits somewhere between Monitor and Omega
but has more naturalness than any of the above.

Mr. Crump said, "All wires are crap...". Does this include the TG Audio wires ? I agree with Jafox in the fine resolution of the Statement and Signature power cords. I had both of the originals, not the Statement II versions, and both are fairly close to neutral with a slight "lushness" in the midrange. This I believe is a euphonic coloration but is pleasing to the ear and both I think are system dependent. The Statement is "larger" in sound to the signature and betters it in all respects. If you are happy with the NBS interconnects,try the power cords in a trial set up. I have read that the monitors are more transparent and refined yet.Search under NBS in the threads for more detailed information.

All wires are crap, but NBS are some of least crappy of the ones out there......

I own both Statement II and Signature II XLR cables. Because of the different lengths, I have not made much effort to compare these two but the Signature is very very good.

As for neutrality, compared to Cardas Golden Cross, the NBS is no where near as emphasized in the midrange as the Cardas. There is clearly more coherency across the frequency band with the NBS. And the NBS is far superior when it comes to resolution. Compared to the higher end MIT models, Magnum series and older 350CVT, the NBS clearly shows a little less extension at the frequency extremes. And the NBS has more of a midrange presence to the MIT as the Cardas does to the NBS. I find the Transparent Ultra to be even more of a frequency roll off than the NBS and Cardas.

It really comes down to a good match with your system. I can put up with a little loss at the extremes vs the incredibly extended MIT for the more luscious midrange of the NBS. I find the NBS to have more inner detail and resolution in the mids and yet the MITs extended bass and treble brings on more information in those respected areas.

I guess you can say I like the wee bit of filtering the NBS does to bring on an incredible presentation that other more neutral cables might result in an analytical sound. Incidentally, the Harmonic Tech Cables are also mighty fine but have somewhat of a laid back presentation as well. So try some out and see what happens. Your mileage may vary.
