Why would you need a LPS,doesn’t that unit have a built in power supply & uses an IEC power cable?
That’s the beauty of this gear — it allows you to enhance its sound quality with an LPS, in addition to I²S output and a 10 MHz clock input for synchronized timing with other devices in the chain. Sounds very good — one of the best-value digital transports. Lhy LPS15VA, 5V/2.5A, is probably the best value LPS you could get off AliExpress or Ebay. |
@lanx0003 interesting to know.. |
@freediver first your UN does not come up when I type it in, anyway, it seems you are unfamiliar that internal power supplies can often be significantly improved, and that outboard LPSs can cost as much, or more than the internal PS HTH
FYI, so far it sounds very good, but I have experience with beefier and thoughtfully made PSs |
You could contact Vinshine if they carry 15VA. If they do, by no means. From the ads they have, VS only carries 25VA and you don’t need 25VA LPS for 5V/1A DC device. Also, you could go (much) higher power LPS but there is a caveat, i.e., If your downstream device or cable ever shorts, a 4.5A supply can potentially dump much more power than a 1A supply — higher risk of damage in fault conditions. Unless PL200T has overcurrent protection, I do not recommend you run 25VA on 5V/1A device. @tweak1 I’m not sure IFI has ever released a true linear power supply. What you purchased is likely the iPower X. If so, the iPower X is still a switch-mode power supply (SMPS), though it features an impressively low ripple noise of just 1 μV. I used it (15V version) with the IFI ZS and found it effective. However, I just want to point out that low ripple noise isn’t the only factor to consider — high-frequency switching noise, which is common in SMPS designs, can also impact performance. For comparison, I’ve powered my Schiit DAC with both the iPower 2 (also rated at 1 μV ripple) and the LHY LPS (a linear power supply). The LHY LPS provided a noticeably darker background and improved soundstage. |
