Anyone ever listened to a vintage Victor Laboratory X1 cartridge

Howdy folks!

Been a long time since I've chimed in here. I've got the opportunity to get something quite rare and quite good, a Victor Laboratory X-1 MM cartridge. Wondering if anyone has ever listened to one. Thanks, Brent

There was mention of that cartridge and related Victor cartridges on the long MM thread. I believe Raul has a favorable opinion.

  1. chakster always had good things to say about JVC cartridges of that era.

exactly

@knollbrent  : The X-1 ( owned )  is a so so cartridge and the one to go for is the X1 MK2.

I own the X1mk2 - it is a so so cartridge and the one to go for is something else.

Good to hear from everyone. Believe it or not, our time traveling friend Chakster sold it to me but you probably already expected it. He wanted to me to remind Raul that it was one of his "favorite carts"

My sample is NOS with the beautiful case and all.

Chakster says hi!

@knollbrent  : The MK2. As a fact he knew for the first time of the X1 and several  other cartridges he offered for sale in the long MM thead

My cart should be arriving in a week or so. Going on my Technics 1200 GR. I'll let you all know how it goes. I know already it's going to be killer. I'm talking to Chakster as I type this :)

For those that are interested in visiting with one of Audiogon’s finest and missed vintage friends, you can find chakster on instagram.

Thanks - I prefer to buy dodgy used cartridges from Japan directly rather than 3rd party resellers.

For commentary on the X1 and the entire (I think) Victor line as well as (for whatever the exercise may be worth to you) audio clips of the cartridges in action visit this thread:

The Victor X-1 cart arrived this morning from St.Petersburg and is mounted on my 1200GR. Wow, it's good. It's REALLY good!

Wait a week or two. It’s nothing to be ashamed of, but you had a first rate case of expectation bias.
