Amp and preamp for dq10s

I have a McIntosh 2205 powering them now and feel there is something missing. Any thoughts on a powerful unit 200 watts a channel with great mid and high with solid base. My taste in music is jazz and acoustic guitar easily driven music. The room is 12x15 but open to kitchen and hallway . Ceilings are 8ft
thanks for your thoughts.

I happen to have a pair of mirror matched DQ-10s in fabulous condition that I am willing to sell. Contact me if interested.
Thankyou everyone ! I'll keep my eyes out for the ones mentioned. Has anyone tried an audio research 100.2? Or audible illusions? I do have a McCormack tlc1 delux with power supply, maybe a Dan 1 is the way to go and sell my mcintosh 2205.

keep the suggestions coming , I heard that a4b was good with dq10 but bryston said a 4bsst is much better.
Waaaay back when , I had 2 sets of DQ10’s ( with upgraded ) crossovers using  McIntosh Pre’s and one had an Adcom GFA-1 Amp and the other was powered with a Perreaux 2150B . Both were enhanced with DQ1 subwoofers that substantially improved the overall listening experience.

Eventually sold off one set and changed main amp to a Threshhold T200 , still one of the most amazing amps I ever heard.and the reason I moved to B&W speakers. ...

If you can find an old Threshold T200, you will not be disappointed.

Have fun ...

Many moons ago when I had the DQ 10’s, I used a 200 watt Threshold mos-fet amp. It was an excellent combination. You should check out Van Alstine, they are mos-fet amps!

Back in the day a very good friend went the DQ10 route. He "joined the club" so to speak and powered them with a GAS Son of Ampzilla, had the crossover mods done, bought a set of custom stands, then went whole hog with double DQ10's and doubled the Son of Ampzillas. These mods turned the Dahlquists into a quite formidable system for their time.

I sometimes wonder what his kids did with this system after he passed away.
The Odyssey is not vintage per we but is a lovely amp and one I would strongly recommend along with others mentioned, we often paired them back in the day with Hafler gear, ditch the piezo supertweeter !!!
Back when I had DQ10s, I had been runing them with a pair of tube DYNA Mk 3 amps ( about 60w/ch)....the only amp I had.  The sound was OK....( what did i know?)  Classical music sounded gentlmanly.

THEN one day a buddy brought over a modded Hafler 500 amp. Man, did that speaker wake up and howl at the moon !!   .  I heard Beethoven, Mozart, Liszt, Stravinsky (especially) like they meant their music to be heard.    So yes, LOTS of strong, big-heavy power supply transformer, current-rich POWER !!
The first pair of "high end" audio speaker I ever bought was the Dq10s I still have them, I've upgraded them like the poster before me, I'll be honest I never gave them a ton of power and they always sounded great, I've paired them with a couple mono 100watt tube amps with good success, I've ran them with a mc7300 had good success. The best results i actually had was the McCormick DNA 1, my buddy was running them with a couple moded mono hafler amps and they sounded good as well.
I have a nicely restored pair of DQ-10's with upgraded x-overs. Amps I own and recommend: Acoustat TNT, Bedini 150/150, BEL1001, GAS Son of Ampzilla, Muse 100, Odyssey Khartago, Perreaux 1250B, Quad 405, Spectro Acoustics 500, Sumo Andromeda. The DQ-10's are a difficult low impedance load and require an amp with sufficient current. Any of the above vintage SS amps will make them sing!
