Don't worry Wisnon, I gotcha.
I'm going to try to find time to get into the city in the next few weeks to hear them. I'll call Bob when I can figure out a window to go. Bob is close enough that they are certainly worth a listen. I will admit openly that I'm not ready just yet to jump off the separates roller coaster. So they would have to totally blow me away for any real consideration.
Also, I have not been able to figure out if the Prologos is rear or bottom ported..... |
Matt,
PL is BOTTOM ported. 6moons review sept 2014 has pictures. That was the Mk1. Mk2 is like 4 months old. Stay away from the plus.
Gear, The magic is NOT the wireless per se. The PL wireless is by definition active with DSP and DRC capabilities with wireless receiver built in. Awards? What about best in show at Newport by AVS showrooms. Go see their video with BobV at their site and KNOW that its the PL tower, MUCH inferior to the real PL which has the mech grounding frame. BTW, my EP pal has the upgraded Beyma drivers and used Clayton Shaw Spatial DRC setup (in person setup) with Orpheus Titan Pro Dac/X-over, etc. He previously used Shindo/Einstein mono blocs, Acapella violins, Modded alters and a host of other quality gear over decades.
He is an expert TT setup guy and has R2R sources too.
TBG, don't confuse Goldmund traditional separates with these all-in-one DSP/DRC monsters. Ultra wide band amps built in with digital X-over, so no line loss. Drivers DSPed to perfection BY DESIGN, by the Proteus software to have perfect control by the amps. Alize 7 Dac integrated in and all with robust wireless protocol.
My pal heard the passive version, then the active version with digital wire and then wireless. He has NOT yet implemented Proteus DRC.
All the comments based on the old stuff is NOT valid for what I am saying, even my pal said the same. Its the tight integration with breakthru software thatseems to have taken things to another level. As he said, the future is HERE...this is why I as Matt for his opinion, since Manhatten is not too difficult for him. |
Josh,
The new wireless tuff is a complete system, just add computer or hub.
Way better than the sum of the parts, which already are very high quality.
I heard the Anatta wireless myself playing RBCD and its the best demo I ever heard.
I am hearing similar gasps about the Kii 3 too at much lower price point... 10K euros, due out in November. N-core amps, DSP up the wazoo, freq response down to 19hz, LIVE sounding! German mag going gaga.
DSP is the future, and the future is now! Just a lot less fun to tinker with. LoL |
I'm interested to see if Matt's listening impressions matches Wisnon's enthusiasm for the wireless Goldmund sound quality. |
Winson, again, the Audiofederation blurb is about the wireless speaker. The angels were not singing....:) I think the AV guy was in the minority at Newport. Furthermore, a lot of press guys will burn incense at the Goldmund alter for obvious reasons (Srajan for example). I think of lot of this is marketing driven and not pure engineering (which is fine...they are a business). A lot of rich guys like the concept of a lifestyle speaker. There are a lot of rich bank fat cats here in Charlotte who would love them! They would not tolerate noisy DHTs and tube rolling. Maybe when I have my psychotic breakdown and finally get burned out on audio, I will transition over and enjoy elevator music in my living room.
Norman, when are you converting? Is your Lampizator for sale?...:) |
Andrew, Are you having noise issues with DHTs? Honestly my DHT Line Stage and amplifier are about as quiet as one could want. Charles, |
Charles, not at all. I was being tongue in cheek.... |
Gear!
Of course not. That would mean big $$$ and a commitment to a full ecosystem. Even the Kii at MUCH less money is not on the table for me at present.Who knows what the future will bring?
Regarding Lifestyle as you say, I have SEEN the Kaiser Kawero there for the Proteus treatment and I know other well known brands which will remain nameless who seek Proteus collaboration with them for their speakers. Think of Proteus as Devialet SAM on steroids! So this is more than lifestyle/convenience.
This is about Matt getting a frame of refernbce for an all in one vs the path he is on. This way we can vicariously get a qualified opinion on the lay of the land. This happens to be convenient as he is close to manhatten and his venture to Bob V will be fun! Wish I could join him there...loL.
This is NOT about Matt spending huge $$$, especially as he MAY not think the tradeoff of the all-in one is worth it. He for sure will let us know though, that is certain. matt is very kind in that regard. Thanks Matt.
My pal raving about the Goldmund is a very experienced audiophile and a dynamics junkie. He was also until 18 months ago a SET guy.
I am well aware that Goldmund stuff is pricey and I am not telling anyone to go run and buy anything. i would never preseume to speak for anyone's pocket. I merely suggested to matt to have a listen since its convenient and compare it to the many other great stuff he is auditioning. It will be fun and very informative.
Finally, based on my unique experience with Goldmund wireless, ie Mimesis 32HD hub feeding the Anatta, I can honestly say its the MOST impressive demo I have ever heard and you Andrew know that I have been lucky to hear some killer systems. Of course the Anatta is ridiculously expensive at a quarter mil and that does not include the price of the hub, likely another 50 large. My pal and I heard the guitarists muttering during Rosanna and both thought it was us talking to the other.."what did you say John?" LoL |
Matt, I forgot to say I like Dynaudio as well, though I dont know that model.
I will post the Kii german mag review translation later. |
Kii audio review translated from German:
Kii Audio Three - Audio review September 2015 - nfnc via Google translate Newcomer Kii Audio has developed a fully digital active speaker with his Three, the boxing scene upside down. The pleasantly compact audio furniture thrilled with unique authenticity and shows also incredibly adaptable. Drives with enhanced signal fidelity and precise crossovers arise from time to time smaller progress on the speaker sound, but the big breakthrough is in failed recent years. Because not disinterested is the aversion many users versus active concepts with integrated amplifiers and electronic filters, although their known superiority for years is and we tester at every possible opportunity to point out. No motor vehicle specialist come on the idea of an engine for city vehicles to operate in a truck, but in the hi-fi scene are those rational not always comprehensible combinations widespread. Not infrequently are simply amplifiers and speakers coupled whim, true the motto "The journey is the reward." This poking around in the fog could now go out of fashion, because the enters compact Three of Kii Audio a novel in many ways active. Your amplifier branches are precisely tailored to the driver. The DSP-controlled crossovers create with selected drivers a unique time and frequency linearity, close to the limit of what is physically feasible. On top of that is the subject area room acoustics highly effective tackled. Much can be said in advance: The living room friendly Kii Three achieved in the for audiophiles main subareas by far the best test result of compact speaker in more than 30 years AUDIO history and effortlessly outclassed far more expensive boxes Repeater Combinations. But before we in superlatives revel, whichever concept and to shed light technology. Kii Audio is an association of five enthusiasts with years of experience in studio technology and high-end Scene. Mastermind, founded in 2014 company with headquarters in the Westphalian Wermelskirchen is none other than Bruno Putzeys, of the Dutch Amplifier and filter specialist for Hypex numerous fundamental developments responsible features. He wrote finally comes the concept the LS1 of Grimm Audio that the test a grandiose in issue 5/2013. Had left an impression. In the Three stuck amplifier modules the latest generation, for the first time a kind impedance feedback feature the highly energy-efficient and space-sufficient module experienced an adaptation to the specific load the driver and their frequency range. In the Three stuck six chassis and as many amplifier units each 250 watts of power. How any decent Aktivbox the Three equalized electronic bass, i.e. transient response and lower frequency limit are determined by the programming of the filter determined less by the sparse housing volume and the Thiele Small parameters of the chassis. There are the drivers with declining frequency increasingly fed power and so the physically induced acoustic pressure drop compensated. Compared to a non-equalized box increases the power requirement in bass slightly by a factor of ten, also because in Three in the interests of maximum sound precision on efficiency-promoting reflex tubes has been omitted. The necessary displacement volume provide four extremely hubstarke bass driver. Two sitting sideways and two behind. The data sheet promises 20 Hertz without losses, but after the measurements (see last page) is the lower limit frequency even at 19 Hertz. Alone with their frequency bandwidth leaves the Kii the vast majority passive speakers look old, also significantly larger floorstanding loudspeaker. But it gets even better: The DSP control operates the woofers like also the midrange in some areas out of phase, resulting in solid angle-dependent level subsidence leads. While ordinary boxes only the middle and radiate heights directed, bass and fundamental range but mostly spherical, achieved the Three directivity to about 40 Hertz down. In the virtual view from the top is made of the usual pie chart a Kidney with a distinct sound pressure minimum behind the pits. The directional radiation at large wavelengths is a long-awaited stroke of genius, because the sound is so well at low frequencies primarily by the box determined and barely from Space and its diverse fashions. Overemphasized and spongy bass are so old hat. A rotary potentiometer allows bass amount and angle behavior vary. The maximum position for free-field similar conditions (large rooms and wall distance pit position) thought and leads to the one shown in the measurement laboratory Box, dead straight frequency response. The minimal position is intended for room corners, where three reverberant interfaces are in the game. The adjustment shall be made in 16 fine steps, thus also mixed forms are covered.
This technique allows the Three adapt to almost any environment and sounds ideally always alike neutral and accurate. A near-wall installation has no disadvantages and acts on the contrary even dynamic promotional, because drivers and amps less must expend energy. It may even be tight, because the recommended Minimum distance between bass and wall is only eight centimeters. Ordinary spatial filter in conventional boxes reduce the bass level for all solid angle and fight for room acoustics related thickenings only the symptoms, because the space areas sides and rear of the box, only less are encouraged, but not effective out-hidden. The Three grabs this fidele high standard issue at its roots, because the critical zones only are not stimulated great. The bass sounds through the kidney not thin, but well at worlds precise. Another part of the Kii philosophy the pursuit of perfect timing. A slight delay in central tweeter leveled the mechanical offset between the drivers and lets despite complex filtering all frequencies at the same time the listener arrive. An accurate step response succeeds as an indication of the time accuracy only very few three-way speakers, but the Kii also completed this exam with flying colors. Read more in the box on the following page. Because maximum neutrality is not always like needs, there is next to the space adaptation a sixteen-stage also "Taste button" with various frequency response gimmicks. The six drivers apply the startup from renowned manufacturers. The well 16 centimeter woofer work as well as the slightly smaller midrange, with high-strength aluminum membranes. For the highs is a flush taken Kalottensystem responsible. Smaller series are variations in each box equalized via the DSP. Just 20 cm wide plastic housing consists of two sound from neutral plastic molded half shells, which are often stiffened. Standard color white is combined with dark gray iris. Extra charge is the color selected, as are the fantasy no limits. It is controlled via XLR and preferably digitally with up to 24 bits and 192 kilohertz. After flipping a small switch to analog signals received. In not distant future will be added two controllers. The small solution that already appear in the coming year, understand with USB or S/PDIF, offers otherwise just a volume control. In the future, angedachte "large" controller to more inputs and provide communicate wirelessly with the Three. But basically extends a notebook with a popular audio player. We could at the Three with the shortest Klangbeschreibung all time content, for you high-precision nature packs a direct and let go no more. And you can feel inside seconds what the Three of conventional boxes repeater combinations differs. It sounds a bell, spatially and dynamically exactly to the point and should alone with her grandiose authenticity ensure that many prospective the merchants his vows faster are as selbiger the mandatory counseling coffee can dish up. Ultimately, it was still a long evening, although the judgment at an early stage it was clear: You can hear this exceptional speaker differences than with any other boxes-amplifier combination and enjoys a sound accuracy, recording weaknesses as mercilessly reveals how they Glücksmomente deepened. The sound character appeared as varied as full and corporeal, room looked exactly in all three dimensions and was on top of that with a fabulously lifelike bass blessed. Such transparent and assertive to the lowermost layers has the AUDIO listening room no box played. Despite the precision worked the Three quantitatively not shy. Even detached, more away than a meter from all walls, it seemed advisable to Bass on the spatial filter one or two levels back to take. The acoustic duo Friend 'n Fellow has the Lou Reed classic "Walk On The Wild Side" in 2010 rerecorded. With the Kii Audio Three of the song sounded almost unearthly light and relaxed. And he gave a timbre variety, where we did not get tired of listening to us want. Triple trouble likely for the competitors of Kii Audio crack, because similarly ingenious concepts are far and wide in sight.
With the Three more go long cherished wishes come true. The SPL capacity, despite the pleasantly compact form, more sufficient. The ability to space adaptation and the enormous known leave deep bass potential concepts even with massive standing speakers look absolutely old.
For this purpose this perverse transparency and ease, there is no dry eye. The digitally generated bass kidney and on maximum fidelity aligned DSP control no less than a stroke of genius. Why has the previously not been done? Comments on measurements and caption text For all types of installation and rooms, maximum dynamics in corners, slightly tilt, listening distance from 1.5m. Six numbers: Four woofers (two side and rear) are driven, that bass frequencies preferred by radiated forward. For the middle and Heights are installed separate drivers. Fully active: The symmetrical input accepts analog and digital signals contrary. Requires the wireless option the "big" Kii audio controller available at a later time will be. Are 24-bit and 192 kilohertz Wired accepted, wirelessly 96 kilohertz. The centerpiece is a 40-bit floating-point DSP, the frequency the high-precision timing of the box controls. The final stages of the type Hypex Ncore work with a so-called synthetic impedance (shown as Motion Control), which reduce the THD should. The modules are attached to the respective adapted frequency range and should sound particularly musical. Clear: The XLR input on the left takes either digital or analog signals contrary. The boundary rotary potentiometer is used to match the type of speaker positioning. The contour control allows you to collect 16 preset sound settings for taste purposes. The network sockets are used for communication between the boxes. Waterfall: The precise sound of the Three can be also be explained by the timing. The waterfall chart (left) shows the reaction after switching off. Up behind the frequency response to recognize the timeline covers forward. Above 2 kHz, there after a few milliseconds quiet. Even at lower frequencies carried out the decay unusual quickly. Almost even more perfect shows the step response shown in red. Bass, middle and treble are actually simultaneously radiated. The Three supplies in the open air setting extremely linear sound pressure curves at larger angles fall textbook-like. The green graph below shows the ratios behind the box. The lower frequency limit is based on -3 dB at sensational 19 Hz. In the open field is the maximum level the bass at 93 dB. In stationary equitable adaptation and higher frequencies are the headroom is much higher.
Step response: The square-wave signal contains all the pitches. The steep Edge is textbook-like shaped. |
Norman, the Kii Three is imported by GTT which is a 25 minute drive from my house. Bill is a nice guy. He imported the Grimm also. I'm going to call and see if I can hear the Kii one of these days. He's always up for a listening session and my curiosity is piqued. Not for purchase as much as to hear what a dedicated NCORE amplified speaker system can do. I still own my Merrill Veritas amps and think they are just crazy good for the money. The Kii supposedly have the newest version of the NCORE plus a whole lot of dsp and digital correction to overcome the room. Very curious to hear how it sounds.
I'll let you all know when I go. |
Me too Matt!! Very curious. You can also contrast against the PL speaker too. you are in the right place to hear them all. LoL. Hopefully the Kii will be in Zurich or Warsaw this year. I will try to attend both, if possible.
Woould LOVE to hear your take on them. AVSshowroom was gaga as well. HUGE sound from the small format with stunning bass, they say.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y1Nebe3ULcY
"Small footprint, big sound with extended bass. The game changer is that they are not room dependant for set up, in other words they go not excite bass room nodes.. Bruno explains this." |
OK, they will be in Zurich!!!
From the website.
HIGH END SWISS 2015 - 16. - 18. October - Mövenpick Hotel - Zürich-Regensdorf - Switzerland |
All these high tech, engineering companies are hawking their lifestyle products. That's fine. Yawn. Matt, go hear this stuff and put us out of our misery.... |
Andrew, You seem to have made up your mind about them without actually listening to them. Surprising in that you're one to usually embrace the new and different more readily than someone like me. Charles, |
Charles, I always open to hearing them for entertainment value. My central point, based on experience, is that it takes considerable effort to extract "analog" sound from the digital domain, with proper mechanical grounding (Sistrum), power conditioning, electrical grounding, etc. If Goldmund can squeeze in a Golden Gate dac, Tripoint Troy, power conditioning, and one of Steve Nuggets reclockers into its speaker, I will consider it. I was an early adopter to the wireless realm (2002), and while I love elements of it, it has a lot of weaknesses. In the context of lifestyle audio engineering, by all means. If SOTA sound is what you are after, not.
Steve Nugent, you have gone quiet? I would love to hear your take on this subject. |
Andrew. Ok, I thought perhaps Wisnon's unbridled enthusiastic report may have been persuasive for you. Charles, |
Gear, Goldmund IS a pioneer of Electrical (acoustical) and mechanical grounding. Did you not see the thick cenbtral rod in the PL frame?
The software to do all this stuff started development in 2007 and took 6 years to be ready for Prime Time, so why compare 2002 stuff?
Power conditioning is external and would be retrofitted to any such gear, but if my experience with the Joob circuit applies here, Goldmund sounds WORSE with Power conditioning, based on hos the circuit interacts with the power line...Sort of uses the power grid as a huge capacitor...hence the extreme dynamics. The little ProLogos box is capable of 120db max spl, 120!!!
I dont know much about the Alize Dac tech, but I understand that the Alize 7 is darn good. What I do know is that Goldmund has lots of $$$ to fund research and make collaborations with Universities and defense contractors, so its not inconceivable that that are dense packed with tech.
I have not heard the PL, so cant go out on a limb, but am gratified that Matt will be able to hear it and the Kii in the context of high end separate systems abd can give an overview and his overall impression. That should be fun and enlightening.
BTW, the Metis and PL Tower are more lifestyle. The Prologos and the + are more audiophile aimed and the Anatta is the reference product.
PL Mk1 was $50K with Grounding frame and the Mk2 is $70K.Apart from software optimization, not sure what else is different.
If I get to hear em, I will report back here. |
Hi all. I'm going to call Bob today to see what he has on display so I can listen. I guess that with the DSP and all gear internal, they should sound relatively similar room to room; so they should sound essentially their best no matter where they are.
I spoke with Bill at GTT and the Kii 3 will be arriving just before RMAF. I may be able to get a listen in before they get shipped out. Kii doesn't really use DSP to correct for the room, it just uses creative speaker and digital wizardry to remove the back wall from the equation, which I have proven first hand can make a huge difference. I'll report as I hear things.
The Nola Metro Gold left yesterday and my Dynaudio Ultimates should be arriving tomorrow, although I need to get them into the basement which will require men more manly then myself..... I'll keep you posted on that as well. |
Sorry Norman. Goldmund has done some shows with their new hustle and people have not staggered out of the room as if they had been in the presence of God. Guys in Asia who can own anything don't go for Goldmund. Its a lifestyle product for lazy, rich guys who are not climbing the mountain and would rather be spoon fed. That's fine. Different strokes for different folks. As Matt has hopefully realized, the room is 70-80% of the equation despite what the Kii cooperative says....:). Hand wringing about the latest techno-exotica is simply brownian motion as we will soon find out.
From an evolutionary standpoint, the Devaliet Orbs are interesting and actually a novel design...but again, a Sonos on steroids. They would make for a fun 5C HT system!
Matt, I look forward to your impressions of the Ultimates and eventually the Isis. |
Andrew, If by Asian you're referencing the Audio Exotic crowd, I find them a good barometer for the "really good stuff". I don't believe the Goldmund is argeted towards their taste. I'm certain they'd reject it on being "clinical" and lacking emotion, given what they are usually drawn to. |
Matt
Glad to hear you settled on a pair of speakers. I hope they sound as good in your room as they did for you during the demo. Now that you have had the Bricasti M1 for a while what are your impressions? I'm real curious on your thoughts compard to the Empirical and to the other DAC's that were part of the shoot out.
Jeff |
I'm not decided until they are in my room, properly set up and blow me away. I hold final reports until the Ultimate's are settled and well burned in. I also am looking forward to the T&F Isis arriving to do a direct in room shoot out of those 2 amazing speakers. I feel like I'm coming close to a final decision though.
I, honestly, haven't really given much analytical thought to the M1. Once the Ultimate's are set up and I get their flavor I will compare the 2 dac's. I've been dying to do a comparison, but without a speaker I am familiar with I felt a dac comparison wouldn't be accurate and a valid report. I want my reports to always be reliable.
I promise that if the Ultimate's are it, or the Isis, then a comparison of a few DAC's will be imminent. |
I have confirmed I will be going to RMAF all 3 days.
Anyone else going? |
Asia IS Goldmund's biggest market, so not sure what you are talking about Andrew.
And money no object guys will for for the 2 Box Logos or the 3 Box Anatta.
In any case, I myself have only heard the Anatta and cold/sterile is the opposite of what I heard. However, that is a Qtr mill, no not "real world" in my book. |
Wisnon and Agear - I'll do my best to hear the Goldmund when I can. I don't think it's too far fetched to believe that Goldmund has been able to accomplish true high end performance in a one box, lifestyle like package. As with all things Audiophile it just becomes a matter of their level of performance and their voicing; and if it suits the buyers needs, desire and style of listening.
These are 2 ways to get your system tuned in: 1) put in the work and effort to properly set up your room and your speakers (or pay someone to do it). 2) rely on new, SOTA, dsp solutions to put your speakers where you (or your wife) want them to fit the style of the room and leave the room as is.
Is #2 inferior to #1 ? I don't have the experience to say yes or no. But if option #1 is not possible due to WAF, room or budget restrictions than it is nice to have option #2 available for those who can afford it and want the pedrance.
Will option #2 one day guarantee better sound than option #1? Maybe. I would guess a combo of the two will yield the best results in the long run.
We shall see. |
08-27-15: Charles1dad Andrew, If by Asian you're referencing the Audio Exotic crowd, I find them a good barometer for the "really good stuff". I don't believe the Goldmund is argeted towards their taste. I'm certain they'd reject it on being "clinical" and lacking emotion, given what they are usually drawn to. bingo Charles. Yes, Goldmund moves a lot of boxes to wealthy lifestyle guys in Aisia, but for the folks at AE who are climbing the mountain, nope. If Matt (or Norman) buys Goldmund and owns it for 5 years or more, I will consider it. :) Matt, post some pics of your new speakers when you get them. |
Andrew, I took a chance on aquiring theTripoint Troy based on the overwhelming enthusiasm at AE, well they sure hit the bull's-eye on that one. I strongly suspect that crowd would love Trenner Friedl speakers if given the exposure to their sound. I am interested to see how the TF ISIS works out in Matt's specific room environment, you just don't know how these things will turn out. I believe that in the right situation and under the proper circumstances they are some of the better "realistic" sounding speakers available. So many variables determine an outcome. |
The Dynaudio Consequence Ultimate's are in my garage. Arrived today to fanfare and hooplah, well, i was excited. The MM3's have left the building. I just hope they make a safe trip to their new temporary home.
Now I am waiting to hear from my trusty moving company to see when they can send over their standard two big guys to help me get these 250 pound each baby's into my listening room in the basement. The wait will kill me. I'm hoping Monday or Wednesday.....
I also touched base with Bob from Profundo about the Isis. They should be shipping out next week. Keep your fingers crossed everyone, and by 2 weeks from today I should have both set up and trying them out. Yay.
Is anyone else coming to RMAF? I'd love to walk around with some of you guys, and/or meet up after for dinner and drinks. Maybe NFS will be there and we can hang and listen and drink some good wine.... |
Charles, the AE crew are off the chain in their OCD pursuits. Most of us just don't inhabit that atmosphere. I tip my hat to them.
I too am intrigued to see where Matt ends up. I think he has two very good options on the docket. Organic sound with real life dynamics and speed is the holy grail. Too often you have either one or the other. |
"Too often you have either one or the other" true. The TF RA Box came as close to having it all (driven by Viva Aurora) as I've heard. Charles, |
The Consequence Ultimate have arrived. It took 4 big guys to get the 320 pound crates from the garage to the basement, and one utterly impatient neurotic audiophile to unpack and set them up alone! Oy mi'back!
I'm letting them steep as we speak. It's 1:01am. I can't play the stereo too loud but at quiet volumes and with nothing warmed up I'm encouraged by my early findings. Tone is correct and there is an incredible depth and complexity, even at low volume. I'm getting the same feel I got in the store - live music. I need to play a lot with placement. They are big, but don't overwhelm the space nor limit placement, at least not as far as I can tell just yet.
I'm listening with the Bricasti M1 since it was last hooked up. I need to get my ODSE back in to return my system to its base. Once I get used to everything I owe everyone a comparison of the ODSE and M1.....
Stay tuned. |
Winner winner chicken dinner |
flip up some pics on your system page for the sake of us voyeurs.... |
Please feel free to view my updated photos on my Virtual System page. All new pictures are up. |
Matt, congrats on the search nearing it's end. I'm very happy for you and am glad that things sound encouraging. I'm just back from Japan (what a two weeks that was) and just catching up on this thread. I too can't wait to hear your impressions of the two DAC's. I loved the Bricasti when I heard it and I too own the OSDE as you know. I'll have to come over for a listen when I get back down to NJ. |
I feel I'm progressing towards a final speaker. The Ultimate's just may be the one. I need time to go listen and enjoy the system, and that's always the one thing I can't afford.
I'll keep you posted. No word yet on when the Isis will be shipped. |
Matt, speakers look great. You are almost there it seems.... |
Matt I wouldn't be surprised if you did keep the dynaudio speakers. I heard their flagship at CES a few years ago and they were great |
Yes their flagship (EVIDENCE PLATINUM) are a great speaker. They can pretty much do it all. |
Doesn't it sound weird having a tweeter so low to the ground? |
Branislav - you might think it would but it doesn't. That was Dynaudio's top of the line model, and the inverted driver configuration is an integral part of the design. Instead of time aligning the drivers by positioning them in a physically stepped array like some others do, they accounted for the additional delay as the driver frequency increases by being further away from those drivers as their offset angle increases. Of course they also took the rolloff of the drivers into account as you get off axis. All in all, an ingenious design that is a true classic! |
|
I have been spending every moment of my time working and getting my backyard project done. I took 15 min to listen and got called by my wife upstairs. Sigh.
There is an occasional Balcony affect. I don't know why it's not dramatic because it makes sense that it should be. The balcony affect is 75% psychological because your brain just tells you it should be that way. But it's occasional; not frequent. It's either there or it's not there; it's musical piece dependent and very infrequent. I have not played at all with placement and I think the Balcony affect is very placement dependent and I can make it disappear with meticulous placement. When I heard it at the store, it had absolutely no balcony affect at any time; not on any track at all. Which tells me it's placement dependent.
The low frequency extension is taught and limitless. Like nothing I have ever heard. I am going away for 4 days. When I get back I am going to measure the room to see how low my room actually goes. My length from bottom front corner to top rear corner is about 27'. But that physics isn't 100% accurate because there are other factors at play that help to augment those lower frequencies. The Double Bass measured flat in my room 25hz to 20kHz. I'll report on that when I measure it. |
Sounds like things are going your way Matt. |
09-02-15: Mattnshilp
The low frequency extension is taught and limitless. Like nothing I have ever heard. You mean like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6-yim9q3_oII figured that was your sonic frame of reference as a former car audio guy (+/- the NJ effect). If that's what you are working with now, you are a baller indeed....we bow down.... |
My stereo can't make cups float....
But I wish it could. That's SO cool!!!! Lol.
I'm away until Monday. Kids start school Tuesday and the schedule returns to a more normal insanity then the transition from summer to school time. Wednesday and Friday morning will be dog eared for stereo play. I can't wait !!! |
The Isis have shipped and are on their way. |
Sweeet! Great news about the Isis.
Bill of GTT is convinced the Kii will shake up the speaker market! A pal down south just confirmedd the enthusiasm to me.
My kid went back to school over 2 weeks ago. |
Norman, I assume Bill from GTT is the distro for Kii.... |
