16 rpm

I remember my parents having a magnavox console stereo with a tuner, reel to reel and a turntable with a speed of 16. I was 10 and played iron man at speed 16, and it was scary, ask my younger sister. Anyone out there have 16rpm records?

Originally used for drama and interview recordings. Then became relatively popular as audio books for the blind.

those were designed for blind listeners. they don't have to flip these albums too often.

First Butthole Surfers first release, Butthole Surfers EP, I purchased early 80's. I'd never heard music like this prior to the purchase, ep suggested it be played at 69rpm. I listened to it at  both 33 1/3 and 45, can't recall if I had ability to play at 16, anyway never determined my favorite speed or intended speed. Perhaps  my favorite idiotic song lyric ever from song on ep, "The Shah sleeps in Lee Harvey's grave, "I smoke Elvis Presley's toenails when I wanna get high."

I remember terrorizing my sister with Iron Man, but pretty sure it was 33 and 1/3.

At the risk of going OT, what is rationale for special audiophile lps that play at 45 rpm? I listen to digital but I’m always fascinated by vinyl technology.

My dad actually purchased a couple of 16 records for his turntable, which evidently had the speed. Or did we just hear a couple of 16 rpm records at a hi-fi show? In any case, they sounded rough and lo-fi.
