Have you upgraded from a Freya? @marco1 Be prepared to spend a sizable sum to get a significant improvement. I just upgraded from the original Freya to an Atma-Sphere MP 3. The Atma is 10 times the price of the Freya and considered to be one of the better preamps available ...
Balanced versus single ended Just for the purposes of discussion, what if you used an AES48 compliant cable between compliant devices, but used such poor quality wire that both signal wires in a cable negatively affected the sound in an equivalent fashion.
Balanced versus single ended @ditusa The wiring diagram below shows the correct way to make balanced cables compliant to the AES48 standard. Interesting. Are you saying that both amplifiers and cables that are billed as balanced might not be to standard?
Balanced versus single ended If audio components are "truly" built to the AES balanced standard then there is minimal to no sonic differences heard with various balanced cable regardless of their cost or claims. My components say they are balanced, but how does one reall...
Tube noise when gain is increased, tube issue? I have the Freya, no hum or noise at any level. Guessing you have a bad tube.
Sabrina X Amp Suggestions You might take a look at Coda amps, I have the #8 and would say it has a sweet, airy sound. I think the reviews say the same. They will also give you the necessary current and a good amount of Class A performance. The Coda site is unexplainably ou...
Connecting Amp to speakers I have “locking” banana plugs on my Blue Jean cables. I feel these provide the best combination of surface area and positive connection. Erik is right about the spades, I have these come loose on my KEFs.
Surprised by streamer differences @zlone - were you using the coax output from the Node 2i? Yes, I used the coax/RCA output of the Node 2i. In the case of the Pi, I am using coax/BNC. I have heard that USB is consistently better in most cases, however that port is in use on my ...
Surprised by streamer differences I have two streamers, a Node 2i and a Pi/Allo DigiOne setup. The Pi system has been offline while I build it into a custom enclosure with a linear power supply and front display. During this time I have listened exclusively to the Node 2i run thro...
Does Anyone Buy Schiit for the Sake of Schiit? I have been very satisfied with my Schiit gear, Gumby and Freya +, though admittedly I have not done any DAC comparisons. The Freya + was a significant upgrade to my NAD integrated's preamp. Had to return the first Freya for an unknown problem in...
GREAT NEWS! The Coda Technology new #16 amplifier will arrive this week Suppose I'm just simply trying to find out how I should proceed with hooking up my Rel subwoofer to the Coda amplifier. Are Coda power amplifiers designed similar to Pass Labs where the black terminal is not ground? I have the Coda #8 and conn...
Wanting to upgrade my streaming sound quality. I would recommend separates and upgrading in steps. Since you have a DAC already, start with a streamer. Lots of recommendations here, anything decent will be big upgrade over the iPad. Streamers do matter! Pay close attention to reviews of the st...
Thinking of taking the plunge. There are lots of choices with that budget. No specific recommendations on brands/models, but I suggest for a budget that size you get a separate a DAC and streamer, versus integrated.
Coda CB vs 2016 07X yysantabarbara: Just curious if you compared the Freya in solid state mode, tubes off, to the LA4. Any thoughts?
Coda CB vs 2016 07X I run it balanced. I have been meaning to try it single ended to see if there is any difference, but have not gotten around to it. From memory I think the #8 is 10k input impedance and the Freya is 600 ohm output impedance, so within the 10x rule. |
