Would vinyl even be invented today?
"12-27-14: SchubertIts not about being a "hipster", many/ most Americans have a COMPULSION to buy what is considered cool in the circle they roll with. The American dream is defined solely by consumption. It ain't complicated."After reading that S...
Would vinyl even be invented today?
"12-27-14: ParaneerYou might be right ZD. The bottom line, most people are justnot concerned about quality sound reproduction, period.Audiophiles are an extreme minority and vinylphiles, even less.Don't get me wrong, I enjoy vinyl immensely and am...
XLR vs RCA
"12-26-14: Sonic_geniusMilpai: 6 dB voltage gain for balanced compared to RCA."He's right. Its a difference of 6db, not double. The way you worded your other post, you made it sound like using a passive preamp with non balanced gear wouldn't work ...
SONIC FRONTIERS LINE 3...TUBES & CAPS upgrade
"12-25-14: MclsoundLolYes that may have sounded confusing. ..I can pick up a line 3 at 1/3 the cost of the VAC and maybe slip in a thousand dollars in caps, tubes and a few other parts to smoothen out the top....the $1000 in upgrades is equal to t...
A lot of unrealized systems out there...
You guys are taking my comments too seriously. Quite often people sell components because they don't like them for some reason. I just think that some would rather avoid telling buyers that because they may get less money. Of course, there will be...
Test CD
"Pink noise is great for analyzing but can be hard on the mechanics of the driver if they are too still out of the box and you push the noise a bit too hard. Also, music breaks in the speakers to match your musical preferences."I don't suppose that...
All else being equal.............................
I would definitely pick the Ayre.
A lot of unrealized systems out there...
Just because someone has good feedback doesn't mean they're reasons for selling a piece of audio equipment are legit. If you don't list a reason why you are selling, that's the first thing someone will ask. "I'm selling this preamp because it soun...
Would vinyl even be invented today?
"Go to vinyl dominated forums and look at the vast amount of posters who have obtained their first TT yet are completely unaware they need a phono stage. These folks are not interested in quality sound reproduction. Afraid they are just hipsters."...
A lot of unrealized systems out there...
Jmcgrogan2 is right. Things are not always what they seem. In most cases, the talk about unrealized systems is used to get the most money for whatever component is for sale. The seller probably listened to the component and didn't like it. If he's...
McIntosh & the Bachelor Pad
"My question is addressed to those who are really, really, really into stereos, have a McIntosh receiver and reside in a bachelor pad -- what's a good cocktail to serve when discussing Nietzsche with that special female acquaintance?"Its a trick q...
Would vinyl even be invented today?
"12-25-14: SchubertOne has merely to have an elementary understanding of American society to know his comment is spot on and anything but silly."Schubert,I assume you were commenting on this:""The resurgence of vinyl is not about sound quality it ...
Would vinyl even be invented today?
"12-25-14: BifwynneZd542 .... maybe using the phrase "ironically cool" does not reflect the motivation of many. In my case, I bought a 1st generation VPI Classic 1 and DIY "modded" it to near Classic 3 performance."That's my point exactly. You're ...
Define power hungry...B&W speakers
Your speakers call for 50 to 125 watts into 8 ohms and their nominal impedance is 8 ohms with a low of 4.6 ohms. Buy an amplifier that has 50 to 125 watts per channel into 8 ohms, and that is 4 ohm capable. Do that, and the spec sheet on your spea...
Preamp w/ Single Line Input. But I have DAC and CDP
You can use the CD player as a transport and connect it to one of the inputs on your DAC. And if you do it that way, you really don't need your preamp. Plug the DAC directly into the your amp.
