Circuit Status
Terra, it appears that your two outlets are daisy chained, and thus you have in effect only 1 dedicated circuit. That circuit is a perfectly valid dedicated one since it comes directly from a subpanel. You need to determine the total steady state ...
Vintage Denon Direct Drive Turntable
Thanks everyone for your responses and information. This Denon still interests me and I'll report on the project.
Stillpoints
I have found the Stillpoints to work well under my ARC CD3 MKII. They produced the widest and clearest sound stage compared to an assortment of other approaches. The shrill sometimes found in piano recordings in the second octave above middle C we...
Vintage Denon Direct Drive Turntable
Kcc123, thanks for the pictures. The DP 80 is a very advanced looking design for 1980, and must have created a market stir amoung other TT builders.
Vintage Denon Direct Drive Turntable
Steve_g, I appreciate your advice on the need for the proper base. I assume the DP80 is not spring or shock mounted in any way in the base? Stay tuned. Lewm, the comparison to the SP10 MKII is quite a statement. This could get interesting. Thanks ...
Vintage Denon Direct Drive Turntable
Nrenter, the Teres may get the gift of a Verus independent of the Denon project... (:-) I don't expect the Denon to replace it, but provide an alternative for either my office system or a table for evaluating and grading used LPs. Licoricepizza, y...
Vintage Denon Direct Drive Turntable
To be more clear, I am considering buying this TT to recondition and experiment with it, and have no previous experience with Denon nor direct drive. The simplicity of a DD TT is appealing compared to a belt or even an idler wheel and if the speed...
Tweaks when building a listening room?
A drywall surface on studs resonates with acoustic energy just like a drum head. You need something to damp that resonance, or the whole wall vibrates and transfers sound into the adjacent room. Adding another layer of drywall adds mass, which low...
Tweaks when building a listening room?
If you need isolation of the sound from adjoining rooms, I suggest you read the information on the Green Glue web site.http://www.greengluecompany.com/Their testing indicates that two layers of drywall are essentially no better than one when tryin...
Preamp inverts phase question:
Rodman, your research and references were very interesting. In addition to covering many of the aspects of absolute polarity, they really hit home on the need for time and phase accurate speakers to have any chance of hearing polarity differences....
RS SPL calculation when changed from 80dB
When you change the scale on the RS meter, the reading is correct without any adjustment. So, in your case, when the meter scale is 90bd, and it reads -4db, the sound pressure is 86db. This is the same way a voltmeter works when changing scales.
Preamp inverts phase question:
Benie,I agree with Almarg. If a pre inverts the signal, it takes either a inverting amp or a switching of the speaker cable polarity to correct it (uninvert it). It is similar to the way positives and negatives work in math. A minus times a plus i...
How much home AC voltage variance is too much?
Banpuku,There is some advantage to keeping the input voltage on tube equipment at or slightly below 120v, as the voltage on the tubes and to some extent their lifetime is proportional to it. If you use an isolation transformer, many of these have ...
