Quality of recording while evaluating speakers
Another emergingsoul thread that's a series of statements purporting to be a question.
SACD/CD Drive Mechanism Replacement
Hello, Don. I was referring to the Esoteric K series in saying that they use the VRDS mechanism. The VSOP was an older Teac/Esoteric OEM mechanism. If you are buying secondhand, it will be a non SE version of the K series as the SE has only just ...
SACD/CD Drive Mechanism Replacement
@OP Sorry to be pedantic, but the Esoteric mechanism you are referring to is the VRDS not VSOP - which is a cognac designation. Around the time (or slightly before) when  Esoteric replaced the VRDS with the Atlas, they stopped supplying transport...
Modern Covers of Classics
Birelli Lagrene and Sylvain Luc's instrumental cover of Cyndi Lauper's Time after Time is worth a listen - outstanding guitar recording as well.
SACD/CD Drive Mechanism Replacement
@OP. You probably have a better chance of getting a laser replaced in an Esoteric product than most machines, given the size of Teac/Tascam/Esoteric. However, you will probably need to get an official Esoteric service agent to supply and fit it. I...
Do high dollar mono blocks truly improve the Sound Quality over the mid tier amps
@OP Replacing your XP-27 with an XP-32 would probably be a better value improvement.
Kenny Burrell's album Midnight Blue
@OP - your connections were correct before the change. The guitar should be on the left. There is no absolutely foolproof way just from recordings to know whether the channels are connected correctly - except to use a channel identification test ...
Modern Covers of Classics
Karen Elson's Radio Redhead EP - outstanding.
I want to buy new speakers for 50,000 and see it used for 30,000, what should I do?
@OP - your post does not raise a concern that very nice speakers are too expensive. With very rare exceptions, consumer goods depreciate. Not nice speakers depreciate and very nice speakers depreciate. Actually, very nice speakers depreciate less....
Orchestrated Rock...Uriah Heep and others
@Jasonbourne - for the avoidance of doubt, I don't have the recording in my collection - which has all the other Purple albums. I was just citing it because it is a "does what it says on the tin" in terms of the question the OP asked. Similarly, ...
McIntosh Sonus Faber love affair, alternatives?
The common partnering of Sonus Faber with McIntosh has much more to do with the fact that both companies are within a common holding group than anything to do with sonic synergy. Like all good speakers, Sonus Fabers are polyamorous when it comes ...
Orchestrated Rock...Uriah Heep and others
Deep Purple, Concerto for Group and Orchestra And lots of Keith Emerson's pillaging of classical music's back catalogue!
New Esoteric K-03XD
Apologies for a PS, for completeness, when I referred to bandwidth limited, I should also have referred to dynamic range limitations.
New Esoteric K-03XD
@OP. The recordings you bought on SACD are bandwidth limited, so they are not going to benefit much from being transferred to SACD. Esoteric's players decode DSD natively. However, for CDs the default Org non conversion setting, IMHO, does not so...
Is There Some Problem With Shunyata's Everest Power Conditioner
@OP - I specifically wanted the Typhon for my power amps but I'll be adding a Denali or Everest for the rest of the system. My dealer never has a problem with loaning equipment for home trial. BTW I have no obvious issues with mains quality  and m...
