Is Recording quality the real culprit?
@emerging soul - thank you. I think that playing and recording music helps a lot to understand how music is reproduced. I've spent a long time listening to, playing and recording music. The recording and reproducing camps are often divided and I t...
Is Recording quality the real culprit?
Regarding rock v jazz historical recording quality, a key difference is that rock music is played on amplified instruments and is in general played a lot louder. This creates major issues with spill and achieving adequate levels of separation. In ...
Anyone remember the days before bells and whistles!
The couple are sitting pretty much on the same axis to the speaker. But as it's a mono system, it hardly matters anyway. The Quad 22 has bass and treble controls plus a further quasi parametric eq - so very much bells and whistles.
Power amplifier longevity… thoughts?
@OP - to answer your specific question - no, "those large caps, the size of a can of beer" do not last longer. The electrolytic PSU reservoir caps are the most common point of failure in older amplifiers. If the amp is knocking around 20 years old...
critique my setup -- weak link? best way to improve?
@OP Running the basic phono stage in the Project TT into a passive preamp is going to be a fairly major limitation, so that's certainly an area for attention.

Crucial TUBE question
@OP It sounds as if you like the sound of mono if you left the 5AR4 rectifier for the other channel in situ.
Small speaker advice
@rob606 - the Sabrinas - and the Sabrina X's, in particular, sound like a scaled down version of the larger, more expensive Wilsons - very transparent, super imaging, and with excellent bass control. They can sound a bit lost in a very large room ...
Small speaker advice
@OP A pair of Wilson Sabrinas will work in a room that size.
I Sold my CD Player!!! Streaming sounds so incredible!!!
Something, I don’t think mentioned so far is that the recording of music has been radically democratised in recent times and that’s been complemented by musicians’ access to streaming platforms. If you’re the average musician, there’s no money to...
High end bookshelf speakers for Small room
Bowers and Wilkins 805D4 Signature. Not a particular preference of mine but they fit the OP's stated sonic preferences.
Questions re. use of an Innuos unit with a Tambaqui
@OP A quality streamer makes a substantial difference, but if you are not that interested in streaming from the internet, then spending a large sum of money on a streamer seems of dubious benefit. One option is to use a PC for storage and delivery...
FEZZ audio
@OP Red Dot is an industrial design award. It has nothing to do with sound quality.
Word clock
@jasonbourne71 - have you actually listened to any transport/dac that has the capacity to use an external clock? @OP - just for information, DCS and Esoteric’s approach to clocking is different - DCS’s clock outputs are at the base sampling frequ...
Cartridge upgrade
@OP The Marantz is a effectively an entry level Clearaudio using technology from their earlier decks. Putting a cartridge priced at the level of the Kiseki on it is overkill. As a point of reference, you should have a listen to the new Concept Sig...
