What are your thoughts on the "Edsels" of the audio history?
The Bose 901 has been in production for over 50 years. I would not consider it a failure.  No doubt about it , it still sells!
In praise of the ESL-57
Many speaker designers use the 57 as a reference. It is listed as number one of the most significant speakers of all time. Amazing for an over sixty year old speaker!http://www.theabsolutesound.com/articles/the-12-most-significant-loudspeakers-of-...
What are your thoughts on the "Edsels" of the audio history?
Anyone remember this bomb? ELCASET was an analog cassette tape based audio format developed by SONY in cooperation with Matsushita (Panasonic) and TEAC in 1976. It was intended to offer a reel-to-reel system sound quality in a convenient cartridge...

Amplifier warm up
Many moons ago I bought a Classe solid state preamp.  I was surprised that it had no on and off switch!  I presumed that solid state is better if it is left on all the time!
What's your definition of an audiophile?
This is the definition. I think we can all agree that anything more can get obsessively over the top!! An audiophile is a person who is enthusiastic about high-fidelity sound reproduction. An audiophile seeks to reproduce the sound of a live music...
Has anything changed with Grado cartridge re-tipping? No more Needle Doctor....
@foeraus My friend just traded in his Dynavector for a new one. I don't know the model but it was a $2000.00 cartridge and was done at a dealer. The new one was $500.00 off the price with trade in. These manufactures do not retip they just replace...
Has anything changed with Grado cartridge re-tipping? No more Needle Doctor....
@foeraus No I have not. I use the older Grados ( TLZ , MCZ) and I replace the stylus every few years! BTW, some other cartridge manufactures like Dynavector have the same kind of deal!
Has anything changed with Grado cartridge re-tipping? No more Needle Doctor....
@foerausThis is from Grado! We have an exchange program that allows you to trade in your old wood cartridge and buy a new, current version cartridge at a substantial discount. We even allow you to move up to a different wood cartridge at discounte...
Phonostage, preamp or amp?
In my experience the phono preamp is where the rubber meets the road. That would be a great start with tube gear!
Has anything changed with Grado cartridge re-tipping? No more Needle Doctor....
I am pretty sure that Grado will take an exchange towards a new cartridge like the Needle Doctor!
Budget Tube Preamp ($2000)
@ hilde45 No you’re not. I just got tired of removing those 18 screws when rolling tubes. As a matter of fact I don’t use any screws!
Adding a sub woofer?
I prefer using line level with any sub that I have owned. Some prefer speaker level. It all depends on the main speakers that you are using with the sub.REL has been around for 30 years so I would not call it a current fad!https://rel.net/our-story/
Budget Tube Preamp ($2000)
@hilde45 I have the same QS preamp that you have. Two screws, one screw on two opposite corners is enough to hold the cover down without any movement!
