are 4000$ /pr speakers today better than $4000/pr speakers from mid to late 1990's?
Inflation! The U.S. dollar experienced an average inflation rate of 2.09% per year during this period, causing the real value of a dollar to decrease. In other words, $4,000 in 2000 is equivalent in purchasing power to about $6,045.99 in 2020, a ...
Dedicated Harbeth P3 Thread
@chayroI’ve owned many stand mount and floor standing speakers and I always go back to the P3. I prefer it to some of the larger Harbeths that I have owned. This guy really likes the P3. BTW, you can check out the Harbeth users group (HUG) if you ...
powered sub to an Adcom speaker selector box
That subwoofer has left and right inputs. There is no reason to hook it up any other way from what I showed him for his non home theater preamp!! https://www.klipsch.com/products/r-100sw-subwoofer
powered sub to an Adcom speaker selector box
@ cunawabi You can use the subwoofer you have. You will need a pair of y adapters on the preamp. Then you can run another pair of interconnects to the subwoofer. A product like this will do the trick!https://www.audioadvisor.com/prodinfo.asp?numbe...
powered sub to an Adcom speaker selector box
@cunawabi  You can't do that. That subwoofer has line level input only. The only way to hook it up is from the preamp outputs to the inputs on the subwoofer.

Receiver recently repaired - Now producing fuzzy distortion in higher frequencies??
You verified that the problem is the Yamaha. That receiver is about 40 years old . I would let it go and buy another receiver instead of spending money to have it repaired. That’s up to you!!https://www.hifiengine.com/manual_library/yamaha/r-300.s...
Capped off?
Shorting plugs are what is used for crosstalk. The plugs that you have are dust caps! This is what a shorting plug looks like! https://www.amazon.com/Viborg-Stopper-Plated-Copper-Protector/dp/B017DH76VS/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&...
Receiver recently repaired - Now producing fuzzy distortion in higher frequencies??
If you have headphones you should try them and see if you have any distortion. If you don’t, MC is correct on the tweeters being blown or the x over might be damaged!
Advice on near-field speakers (eg, Raidho X-1)
@northmanIf you are worried about your kids education and your job why would you be a lookin’ at some of those high priced speakers like some of the ones on your list? Just curious!
Constant noisy tubes maybe go solid state?
@ gochurchgoI hate to burst your bubble but I think your spinnin’ your wheels. You said the problem was too much gain with the QS preamp. You are replacing the At7 with a 6201. Both of those tubes have the same gain. Good luck and all the best!
Constant noisy tubes maybe go solid state?
@gochurchgo Why did you get a 6201 tube if you need less gain than a 12at7? Just curious!
