Help to pick belt driven turntable around $1500 “Tonearm unipivot design ? ? ! ! it's the worst tonearm bearing design to mount any cartridge due to its severe unstability. Unipivot is out of question on analog when you are looking for at least decent quality level performances.”Certainly a pa...
Who's done it besides me ? I’ve always avoided cartridges where the cantilever sticks out the front like the Lyras and Clearaudios because I know what I’m like. My lesson came cheap from my first moving coil, a Goldring Eroica L of which I bent the cantilever fitting it to ...
Add cartridge to current lineup An Audio Technica VM95c or e would seem a good enough place to start and won’t strain the budget.
Cartridge recomendation for Garard 301 and Ikeda IT-345CRI I can’t use a G or A type SPU with my arm, so it had to be an N. As for the Royal, I’ve used fine line styli for 30 years so that was more or less habit. There’s a bit more choice with a G type but for me it would be the Royal or the Century purel...
Cartridge recomendation for Garard 301 and Ikeda IT-345CRI I’ve just fitted an SPU Royal N to my arm, a Schröder rather than an Ikeda but if you want big and bold this is it, it’s also fluid and engaging. From what I can glean the Ikeda is high mass so should be ideal.
How to upgrade "power cord" on turntable with wall wart? If it’s a wall wart you can’t change the mains cable on it as it hadn’t got one. You could try an alternative if you know what it is supplying the table, easy enough if it’s AC and you know the voltage and frequency. As a first test that won’t cos...
Anyone experienced speed issues with Artemis Labs SA-1? I have an SA-1 and have had one instance of a speed glitch but it was half a year ago and hasn’t recurred. I’ve also had two belts go but the second one was my fault as I’d put the splicing tape on the coated side.
More Dynamic Speakers Than Vienna Acoustic The Stereophile review of those speakers makes interesting reading, particularly the bit about the crossover implementation. It is quite an old review and yours may be different. How are you linking the binding posts?Try without the isolation trans...
Transfiguration cartridges. What tube phono stages would you use them with ? Quite an old thread now and Transfiguration are no more. I have a Proteus I bought in 2015 which is getting pretty close to the end, or indeed beyond it beyond if you reckon on a 2000 hour lifetime though I only get the fainted hint of sibilance c...
sodium / tungsten / magnesium, aluminum, wire? We used to have a press for making sodium wire, it was used to dry various solvents. It’s pretty soft stuff but worse than that is the fire risk, it’s a trifle combustable itself and generates hydrogen if you get it wet and also enough heat to pot...
Why the woofer moves badly when playing certain LPs I used to get a lot of woofer pumping when I had a suspended deck (Manticore Mantra) but not when I went for one with a bit more mass ( Townshend Rock 2). At the time of the Mantra I had a pretty basic Sansui amp (AU217) and mission 700s and with ...
Finally bought a new Turntable! First thing is get it run in. 50 hours has been mentioned, treat this as a minimum. You have a lot of adjustment options with your tone arm and a stylus that likes to be set just right to give its best, hopefully the dealer will have got it close ...
Cartridge Tonearm compatibility This makes it easy if you have the arm effective mass and the cartridge compliance at 10Hzhttps://www.vinylengine.com/cartridge_resonance_evaluator.phpIf you only have compliance at 100Hx multiplty that by 1.7 and you'll be close enough or halve s...
Review: Naim Uniti Atom vs Tube Separates/Chord Digital System From living room to bedroom but how much care did you take with positioning the Harbeths? Was it a case of “the speakers have to go here” or did you perform the full Masterset? (Do a search for the latter if you’ve never heard of it, there was a l...
Cartridge (other than Rega) with Rega RP10 Where I am the 17Dx and Rega Apheta 3 are the same price and the Delos is cheaper than both. The 17D3 used to undercut the Delos but the change to the brass bodied Dx came with a hefty price increase. The Rega will have a good chance of correct VTA... |
