Prima Luna have released the Kracken (striketrough) I mean DAC
Apologies to rixthetrick for the thread derail. I originally jumped in here as I was considering the Primaluna DAC at one time. @erictal4075 , I own the L2 May DAC, and despite the original buyers guilt of dropping $5k on a dac, I don't regret it...
JL Fathom F113
Are you certain the F113's driver is the culprit? The plate amps on the fathom units have a history of failure. If it is the driver, JL could probably tell you what replacement is compatible. Car audio units tend to be dual voice coil and at fair...
Prima Luna have released the Kracken (striketrough) I mean DAC
@gakerty , there’s a fairly long thread on audiocircle in the discless circle focusing on the mp-d2. The sound is fairly easy to tailor through tube, cap, and chip swaps. Also, your 12au7s could be put to use here. There’s an internal switch that ...
McIntosh Font
@imnoone , keep in mind I’m basing this off of internet photos of the C26 preamp. it’s possible that type face is Futura Condensed set in all caps. It was originally designed in the late 20s , so it predates the 60s gear. There are modern interpr...

@gakerty if you're the tweeking type, have a look at the Musical Paradise MP-D2 tube DAC. I thoroughly enjoyed mine while I had it and its a relative bargain.
Prima Luna have released the Kracken (striketrough) I mean DAC
I'm a satisfied owner of a PrimaLuna power amp, and am a fan of the brand. However, I feel the hardwired super tube clock is a bit of a gaffe on their part being it's a consumable. Even if this tube lasts 10 years, who's to say you'll be able to ...
Better R2R DAC Recommendation?
There's a Holo Audio Spring KTE version listed on USAM within your budget. (no affiliation) From what I've read, the Spring gets you about 80% of the May DAC's sound quality. As a May owner, it has been the most significant upgrade in my system o...
Decware ZROCK inside..?
Did you try the Decware forum? Probably your best chance.
Marantz 7T. I’m surprised!
Agreed. I found a 7T on my local Craigslist years ago for $120 and it wouldn't power up. I spent another $400 at a repair shop (cap replacement and LED power on lamp)  and the unit has been singing along in my office system ever since. It's a fant...
Question on PrimaLuna EVO 400 Amp: Fully Balanced (Differential), or No?
I have the Evo 300 power amp and I've connected my REL 212SE as shown on the REL website: https://relsupport.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360001493114-Tube-Amp-Connection-Methods Although the 300 and 400 have XLR inputs I don't believe they are ...
The New NSMT Model 75 Loudspeaker
I would love to try the NSMT model 100 but it's $13k price tag is hard to swallow. I've looked for used pairs, but it's not like tons are sold to begin with. As someone who's heard both, is the model 100 twice as nice for double the price? I like...
McIntosh MCD 201 CD/SACD player questions about viability of an older piece.
I owned the MCD205 for a few years which was the 5 CD MusicBank version of the 201. It had great sound and I don’t feel the internal DAC would let you down. However, if you search here and other forums the 201 did have some reliability issues wit...
McIntosh -- good for show, not for sound, says dealer
@hilde45 , you accidentally linked to a video from OCD hi-fi guy. It should have come with the obligatory warning that you're about to have time sucked from your life without any meaningful benefit.
Your single most significant purchase mistake?
@stereo5 , it was a Clarion years unit (production run of 1992-1998). I'll admit that Mc has built some "duds" over the years in an attempt to chase trends, but feel they hit the mark more than they miss it. My C2300 is certainly a keeper.
Your single most significant purchase mistake?
I love McIntosh (despite all the hate they draw) and still own it, but the MC7106 I bought years ago could not leave my home fast enough. Granted, it was a 6 channel amp designed for HT, but could be bridged to the tune of 320 watts of bad sound f...
