Saw him in Princeton NJ in 1987 or 1988. Great show.
JBL lovers
The JBL L200 was produced in the early to mid 70's, not the 60's, although the studio monitor version was produced earlier. The L-200B (supposidly better) was produced after 1975 I think. I have a pair of L-166 I modded a bit, this was the "super ...
What concert or music DVD's are worth having?
Nobody mentioned Steely Dan's "Two Against Nature" concert DVD? my favorite. Also Santana's "Sacred Fire" live in Mexico City.
Big Stupid Warm Speakers
JBL L-200 or L-300 from the mid-70's. 15" woofer with 4" voice coil and 2o lb. or so ALNICO magnets. Or Altec Lansing model 19(?) I think, home version of the Voice of the Theatre. Or Klipsh horns. Now these speakers are IMHO much better than the ...
Best DVD player for the money?
Toshiba 4900 for around $90. It really does sound great IMHO.
Rega Brio, Enough Power?
The Rega Brio is a great little amp, but it does run out of steam if you want really loud levels. I have one I use with my TV/DVD setup (I replaced it with a Mira in my secondary system and the Brio went to the TV-stereo) I think the Mira is bette...
What is the benefit of low efficiency speakers?
Some low efficiency loudspeakers sound very very good. Chario academy 1's are very inefficient, about 82 or 84 db 1 watt/1 M, 4 ohms. Some very efficient speakers sound rather, ah, bad in some ways; JBL L-200's at around 96 or more db/1w/1m. I own...
What songs do you never get tired of?
Some nice responses...I agree with above: All of Aja, I never tire of "Carry On",for Chicago it would have to be "Introduction", For Bruce Cockburn it's "Lord of the Starfields" or maybe "Grim Travelers" Agree with Moody's "Lost.."Also:1. Stanley ...
Best excuse for playing loud music?
Because when you play the U.K. pressed Bob Marley "Babylon by Bus" Live album, it HAS to be loud. Also, it's kind of hard to play it soft on my JBL L-200's
resistence is futile
Which JBL? you may be able to purchase the correct driver on ebay, as there are scores of JBL vintage drivers posted all the time, at rather inflated prices I might add ($400 for a pair of the infamous glass tweeters used in the L-300's for example)
Your First System
Yes still makes my system howl (The Gates of Delirium - Relayer - 1974)
Larry Coryell? Go See Him
I saw Larry Coryell only once, he warmed up for Steve Hackett's band in 1980. Played Solo, it was very good.
Your First System
Garrard belt drive with throw-away shure cart., JVC integrated 30 wpc amp, Pioneer project 60 speakers, all bought in 1977 also from summers washing dishes! My old man was mad as hell because I was supposed to be saving that $$ for college. "He bo...
Besides Audio, what other ''passion'' do you have?
Would you people believe I am a butterfly collector? It is a hobby rarely practiced by adults these days.On the other end of the spectrum I am a WWII armour nut.I love german tanks and am an avid 1/35 scale modeler of armour kits.I used to be a fin...
