Regrets, I've had a few...
How about "albums you saw in the store for sale but didn't have the money to buy at the time"1. Special British import of Yes "Topographic Oceans" on coloured vinyl2. German pressing of Bill Bruford's "One of a Kind"3. Brand new in the store, for ...
the 4 ohm rating
Ran Spica TC-50's for over a decade with 3 different amps never a problem at 4 ohms. Now using (the most inefficient speakers I've ever had)Chario Academy 1's at 4 ohms, not a problem at all and not hurting my amp (Eagle 4) at all.
Great Ska music
2nd on "The Specials" and "The English Beat". I remember seeing The English Beat in Rochester NY in 1982, they did not disappoint. Better musicians than most. Does anyone remember seeing The Specials on Saturday Night Live, I think they debuted th...
Please Help Can't get rid of radio station.
I had the same problem and the problem went away when I switched phono sections; my Benz PP-1 for some reason filters out or has enough shielding that I no longer had the problem. Another option is to move; When I moved from NJ to GA we moved into...
Life expectancy of Interconnects & Speaker Cable?
I still have a circa 1992 Ensemble interconnect I like alot. What's there to deteriorate? just clean the terminations with Kontact.
How Important Is The Cdp?
I've had one of the Toshiba 3950 DVD players used in my "quasi-home theatre" system.. I replaced it with a Toshiba 4900 and was surprised at the level of improvement.. I paid only $90 for the 4900, if you can find one, it's only $90, may be worth ...
Audiophile speakers VS Studio Monitors.
Hard to believe, but I met a guy while at a concert at The Bottom Line in NYC (I think it was Bill Bruford's Earthworks) who said he was a studio tech, said he used a pair of Spica TC-50's for mixdown.. pretty unusual as these are about the opposi...
Pink Floyd DSOTM in various versions
What are the "pro-use" pressings? how does one find them?
Audiophile speakers VS Studio Monitors.
I see photographs of really famous musicians in their home studios using really, in my opinon, average speakes, like that Yamaha model with the white 6 or 8 inch woofer 2-way. You've got to be able to do better than that! Only problem I'm thinking...
Pink Floyd DSOTM in various versions
Japanese pressings have a certain sound and often are from 2nd generation masters or so I've been told, although they use superior vinyl compound and are very clean. You're right, Us and Them is my favorite track to compare. What about a MFSL viny...
Planet 2000 upgrade question...
I had an original Rega Planet. I have replaced it with a Jupiter 2000. The improvement was immediatly noticable - I really love the sound of the Jupiter. I would not go back to the Planet. Also, my Jupiter sounds best with a Cardas Golden power cord.
Are Preamps necessary?
JW94055 is right; you will need a volume control somewhere, I would try a passive, in my case once you've tried a passive you will not want an active preamp. The active preamp will always be adding another step of separation from the music, IMHO.
Can anybody define LOW OUTPUT...?
CMK has it right: low output is around .25 or .3 MV, phono section gain needs to be 60db or so.I've always thought the low outputs were better.
Background Voice On Bridge Of Sighs ?
Played the cut today, I hear the voice coming mostly on the left speaker a little after the "wind" starts, you can hear that the voice is there very plainly, but I cannot make out what the bloke is saying.
Turrntable With or Without Suspension?
I remember a friend's Bang and Olfsen's (did I spell that right?) belt drive suspension table from around 1979 or 1980(forgot the model, not the targential tracking model) that was unbelievably unsuseptable to vibration. Of course this was more of...
