Holographic Soundstage ? Is your hearing holographic? When your sound system can reproduce a single unamplified instrument so that you can't tell without opening your eyes whether you are sitting in an audition space listening to the instrument or in your listening room ...
Do you have ways to ease use of vinyl? I have one system with a turntable at 18" and another on a custom stand at 31". The 18" is standard rack height and OK, but hell when I need to do cartridge work as my knees aren't what they used to be. Not bad for playing, though.I much prefer th...
Sending a 110 lb amp to the manufacturer for cleaning/calibration. Good idea? How to ship? I shipped an amp that weighs even more than that to the East (Classe DR3 VHC) but had an original double box. It came back in good shape via UPS, although I was worrying the whole time it was away that some idjit would drop it off a loading dock.I...
What is the actual percentage of people exclusively listening to vinyl vs digital? I have two systems with turntables plus a server with about 4000 CDs on it (I have a similar number of LPs). For casual listening, digital gets used more. For listening sessions, it is probably 75% analogue for me.
New turntable: TW or Obama? Keep the arm - hard to better it.Upgrade the table to current model - costs a few thou but have heard very good things about it.I have a series 1 Cosmos with the same arm on it and have been toying with an upgrade (only problem is that it is in my...
What phono preamp are you using? Main system uses a Koetsu Urushi/SME V/ VPI TNT V into a Vendetta SCP2D.Second system uses a Lyra Clavis/SME V/ Sota Cosmos/ into a Conrad Johnson Premier 15You can pay ridiculous money for a phono stage today, but if you look around there are som...
If you don't have a wide sweet spot, are you really an audiophile? When we were setting up my dual purpose room for audio and video (only overlap being the main speakers) using some very nice computer analytics as well as our ears, we found that my main speakers (*large Wilsons) nailed the centre image even bette...
Why would anyone want class AB amp when class A always sounds better ? Class A sound better? No, lots of factors to consider. You have first of all assumed Class A sounds better. Not always true. Exactly. I own four Class A amps so obviously like what they offer (aside from the heat and the electric bill), but...
WILSON AUDIO.....BIG NAME, BIG PRICE........ARE THEY THAT GOOD? Pretty hard to advise on buying speakers without you auditioning them, and if you can audition them, you won't need anyone's advice.Having said that, I was never a huge fan of the Watt/Puppy in early iterations and haven't heard the 8s so can't he...
Most rooms don’t need acoustical treatment. Not snake oil, but many people buy stuff that they may not need, blind and expect miracles. The only way to really assess a listening room is to have someone with the gear and software they need come and test the room, preferably with all the furni...
Apogee Scintilla Power If you ever get a chance to audition the Classe DR3 VHC I mentioned earlier in the thread, do so (hard to find as less than 200 made). The pair I have were driving the heck out of Scintillas when I bought the amps.Run in stereo they put out 40 wat...
If your were to assemble a vintage system ? Pretty easy (depending on what you mean by vintage).Pair of Spics TC50s driven by a NAD 3020 or Audiolab 8000A.Source could be an old Thorens TD-124 or a Rega RP1 or RP4.
If you don't have a wide sweet spot, are you really an audiophile? No big deal. I carefully choose my seats for the symphony so I am in the sweet spot for the particular room, and I choose a optimal seating position in my listening room. I don't walk around when listening so what does it matter how wide the swe...
CD or Streaming... am I missing out? From the point of view of cost, if you happen to own thousands of CDs and you don't mind ripping them to a server, all it costs you is time (I did mine while watching TV in the evenings) rather than fees for a music service (I ripped well over 400...
Best cost no object tube phono I don't think that you want a tube phono stage for great sound. In fact I run an amplification set up that is entirely tubes, but use a solid state phono stage simply because it is better than any tube phono stage I have heard. (my tube phono sta... |
