salesperson recomends what do you think
Ditto Silverline Preludes, but with the addition of a sub. I scored my Preludes for 400 bucks used...current version...Ebay or something, and they simply needed a speaker to be wired to the xover (seller paid for that)...maybe that's why they were...
Speakers that do pianos really well
Interesting point Martykl makes...all piano recordings sound a little different (some a LOT different) and that is where the mojo lives...i.e. being able to clearly and instantly hear those differences. I think a good sub really makes pianos come ...
Do Active Speakers Belong In A High End System?
My only beef with active speakers is the fact that if something goes down, it's dead until fixed...as opposed to swapping in another speaker or amp. Otherwise it makes a LOT of sense in design opportunities, etc. If you want to see actives in a "b...
Speakers that do pianos really well
I listen to a lot of piano (jazz trios, classical, etc.)and I have a pair of Silverline Preludes (current version) that do piano amazingly well...with an older REL sub.
Putting together first system... clueless.
I don't think too much headroom is an issue with moderately powered tube amps. Also, I rarely pass up an opportunity to question the picking of a "type of music" for hifi components...get the widest frequency range stuff you can afford as all musi...
Putting together first system... clueless.
A Jolida integrated would cost about half of what a Primaluna costs, likely have more power, and they sound fabulous. (note...Jolida plug # 784)
Entire system cable recommendation
I strongly suggest used cables...of any kind, although my personal preference is for solid core AQ stuff. I have a pile of clean AQ cables bought here and there for a fraction of their original cost, and the system synergy sounds stunningly sounds...
Linn Axis, Akito
I use a vintage but mint Basik/Akito/Sumiko Pearl rig with a Jelco/Mogami DIN cable...this setup sounds so damn good I have no current desire to upgrade, although the Rega RP6 might sneak in there someday if I can get over the lack of VTA adjustme...
Signal Cable REL cable vs Speakon Custom REL cable
My new-ish REL cable lowers the dust content of my listening room, and has made me a much better person.

I do hate it when greated by nude salesmen in an audio shop.

$500 dollar cables have helped me retain my hair. Not sure how, but hey. A rig does NOT have to be expensive to make music, it merely has to be demonstrated to the "great unwashed" that great sounding music is available to everybody who might care...

I get that. That's the definition of business elitism, and I understand Goodwin's is happy with their current level of grey haired 65 year old wealthy lawyers from Wellesley (I sort of fit that demographic although I'm not a lawyer). My point is m...

Example: Goodwin's High End has some nice salespeople as part of their "credo", and when I asked one of these guys how to find out about upcoming manufacturer's product rollout gatherings (you might notice these on their website), he said "well, w...

My point is simply that the High End dealers don't care. There are 2 well known high end dealers near me in the Boston 'burbs and neither one has an email list of clients who might be interested in something. Like music reproduction and its beauty...
Cheap and chearful integrated for Epos ES14
Ditto on the Creek...somehow these little amps, even the older ones (get one with a remote), always sound right.
