small red lights flash on my Nakamichi PA-7 I had one of those 'Naks years ago...and getting the clipping light to come on (300 watts pre side) meant things had become VERY loud, so if that's not the case then I'd get it checked out if possible.
Why aren't new vacuum tubes as good as old ones? I think you should avoid the 6SN7s from that manufacturer as clearly something's wrong...but preamp tubes or driver tubes generally should last a very long time. Also, 250 bucks is some large cash for 4 driver or preamp tubes...sort of my lifetime...
Why aren't new vacuum tubes as good as old ones? Here's an interesting tidbit from the Atma-Sphere FAQ page:"Atma-Sphere equipment is designed to work with commonly available tubes, making our products easy to live with. The 6SN7 tubes we use are produced in China but there are many aftermarket ...
Why aren't new vacuum tubes as good as old ones? I use new JJ EL84s (7189s) in my Burriss Royal Bluesman amp, and they sound great.
Why aren't new vacuum tubes as good as old ones? My experience indicates that new tubes are as good or better than old tubes in most cases, and since there are new designs that hadn't existed before now it renders that argument moot for those examples. I use Psvane 12AX7T-IIs in my hifi and guit...
Why aren't new vacuum tubes as good as old ones? This thread is astonishing. Many new tubes are fabulous (KT120s have been nearly unanimously accepted as great), guitar amps use FAR more of the available tubes than home audio geeks ever will, and new "boutique" tube amps and reissued amps sound ...
So......what do you use under your speakers? My girlfriend of 10 years is very understanding.
So......what do you use under your speakers? Remember that you can saw the legs off of your listening chair or couch instead of raising the speakers. Messy, but effective.
New to headphone amps --- I'm wondering ..... I rarely listen to headphones (except when recording of course) but I run a little 12AU7 based Chinese tube headphone amp from the extra outputs of my preamp...makes it remote controllable (unlike a tape out, which my preamp doesn't have), and it ...
So......what do you use under your speakers? After many years of poking holes in various floors I noticed that there was an "anti-spike" movement afoot (!). Stillpoints make perfect sense, and plenty of speaker makers are now using some sort of "decoupling" on the stands, under the speakers,...
Listening volume I don't listen at the same volume all the time, and am surprised if anybody else does. What are you people...robots? heh heh...Certain recordings sound better than others when louder...recording a piano with a brighter mic or mix sounds fine at ti...
Question about shipping damage The claims department is an outside service that handles UPS claims...they can send you paperwork that you can fax (!)back to them to plead your case.
Thinking I need a Sub... If a sub is made of a ball of wax, don't place it near a tube amp.
New KT150 tubes? I might buy a quad of 150s when my 120s die just to see if my amp would blow up. Am I so wrong? Seems the amp (Jolida 502p) can take it...plus I'm getting curious about the 150s and starting to overcome the pickle-esque vibe.
Best Options In A Balanced Preamp Under $1500.00? Kavent S-33...rebadged Vincent SA-93...maybe hard to find. I'd check out the Jolida Fusion...not expensive, balanced ins and outs, remote, tubes. What's not to like? |
