How an audio rack can enhance your amp/pre
Sorbothane feet (Vibrapods and other things) under everything including my main speakers (not the sub) obviate the need for a fancy rack in my humble (!) opinion. The amp, DAC, everything gets soft rubber feet…my TT came with large hollow rubber f...
Peachtree Audio Nova 220SE price drop
WOW…"Marge, sorry but yer gonna have to do Uncle Bob's funeral by yourself…I'm gonna go get me a Peachtree Nova RIGHT NOW!"
Slow adaptation of KT150 by amp mmanufacturers
Fear of KT150 update (formerly Fear of KT120 update): Stick KT150s in anything that can handle KT120s…or kt88s or 6550s it seems…my ongoing careful and utterly accurate thoroughly informal ridiculous survey has noted the reporting of exactly ZERO ...
SPL - Pro Audio Blasphemy?
It's all about that first watt.
SPL - Pro Audio Blasphemy?
I'm a pro gear pro…I've been paid to use this stuff (mix mostly jazz shows these days) for decades both as a musician and sound tech and I can say without question that home gear sounds generally better in the home. I don't like amps with fans eve...
And Clapton Didn't Even Know
Ditto on the Lowell George hero thing. I luckily saw the classic Feat live a couple of times, and a couple of post Lowell versions too. Something about George's gonzo yet precise cerebral soul (from a self described "fat kid from Hollywood")…I sti...
And Clapton Didn't Even Know
I was a Dylan freak from 1964 to whenever I lost touch with his stuff (meh), so I was stoked to see him and The Hawks (Band sans Levon) in 1966. A life changing event musically for my soft 15 year old brain, and the loudest thing I'd seen up 'till...
The Band: S/T and/or Music from the Big Pink
The Big Pink and The Band albums were bad news for musicians in the 60s (like me) because you realized how lame they made everything else seem (Clapton was supposedly rendered morose and depressed and tried to join the Band)…if you got to see thes...
How do you respond to this question?
If you don't listen to LPs they just sit there. You can look at them of course, and, unfortunately, people make them into bowls (really ugly and sad bowls…saw 'em at a craft fair) or coasters. If the LP is extremely damaged I suppose a coaster is ...
overwhelmed by record rituals
What about the "cover the LP with peanut butter and let insects eat it off" solution? My fave ACTUAL thing was when a guy from Rega suggested playing the LP and letting the needle do the work…really…by the way, the Spin Clean does both sides at on...
Revel F208 Review by Earl
Note: To people into Shoe Gaze, it's no joke.
Turntable placement
I initially put my trusty (old but amazing, bought a couple of years ago with an Akito arm) Linn Basik on top of my rack…bad bad bad. Then I read the instructions in an archive someplace and it advised a "low mass stable stable" or some such and I...
overwhelmed by record rituals
A Spin Clean is inexpensive and works…all my old LPs got the cleaning and I clean any new ones…once…they aren't getting dirty. An anti static carbon felt mat, anti static LP sleeves (Mobile Fidelity), and a good anti static carbon brush every time...
Revel F208 Review by Earl
So Earlxtr…you were born without the satire observation gene? In any case, to beless silly for a moment…but just a moment…I am of the camp that thinks ANY system worth listening to within its output limits should accurately reproduce any music tha...
Subwoofer recommendation for jazz and rock
The REL system of "high level" input presents an extremely high impedance signal to the speaker jacks of your amp (i.e. the amp doesn't feel much or any speaker load from the REL) which is unusual but works well…and doesn't require long RCAs, just...
