TUBE AMP LOVERS - What SS amp makes you smile???
I still think although clearly SS amps can sound fabulous…tubey or not…tubes allow an easy path to amp tone manipulation that can simply be more fun than otherwise…otherwise being the fact that most tone freaks are unlikely to try dropping various...
CD Spkr Set-Up ?
I listen to music to tweak things, but then it's back to pink noise for enjoyment.
CD Spkr Set-Up ?
Perviously…a mistake but as a new word I'm keeping it.
CD Spkr Set-Up ?
That Isotek CD…if it's the same one as perviously mentioned…has a cool "sound goes around your head" track. I use one of the Stereophile test CDs sometimes, and that Sound Tools app for an iPhone (real time and frequency stuff). However, nothing b...
Dan D 'Agostino, Mark Levinson, Jim Thiel,
In the year since my "annoying freak" comment I've realized something…Carver is still an annoying freak. His designs might be fine, although also freaky…except his smaller tube amps…I like those.
wattage
The music flows just fine with my 60 to 80 watts or so tube amp…150 in the mosfet sub…dynamic all day (my speakers are maybe 89 db efficient although rated as higher). A note about clean dynamic power…I have super clean mui powerful amps used for ...
Any love for Jolida integrates?
I rant frequently about my factory upgraded 502P…almost 4 years, various tubes…currently using KT150s/GL12AX7s/Mullard 6201s…a GREAT sounding amp.
Silverline speakers?
When a woofer in my newly acquired Preludes wasn't working I called and Alan answered…fun conversation, and it had a part 2 when I called again noting a false alarm (the woofer simply was not connected to the crossover)…I learned that the Preludes...
Anyone Try this?
I completely support roller bearings.
Anyone Try this?
There is a "spikist element" lurking around so be careful not to say too much about spike abandonment or you will feel their wrath. I de-coupled my Silverline Preludes from the wood floor with Vibrapods (on wood blocks to simply raise the tweeter ...
Counterpoint vs Jolida
It seem that Jolida's original owner, Mike Allen, had issue with his original guys and broke away from them some years ago to solve the quality control issues…leading to a lawsuit. His "newer" Jolida based in Maryland seems to be the real deal and...
Counterpoint vs Jolida
I've listened to nice expensive tube hifi from ARC, Rogers, VTL, etc., and my Jolida 502P stands up to any of them in sound and build quality (been driving the crap out of it for 4 years or so now). I do a little survey (ongoing actually) when vis...
Better than the Project Carbon TT for $ 500.00
My heap of LPs all (or most) have cat scratches on the spines from a house my band lived in for 7 years in the 70s, they were used with a KLH model 20 with a Pickering cartridge (with that little brush…remember those?), and abused by crazed hippy ...
Better than the Project Carbon TT for $ 500.00
This is an interesting thread which reminds me of something that got me thinking about "archiving" LPs (an ad for phono stage with a USB plug is to blame)…I have a bunch of LPs from recent stuff to decades ago (I'm old) and they seem to be self ar...
mixing brands
Most of my system is solid core AQ stuff bought used…Type 8 speaker, Cobra and Diamondback ICs…silver digital…and it all works really well together like a swarm of disparate bungee cords.
