Can the KEF LS50 rock?
A note on REL subs...I have 2 of an older generation of these, a Q150e and a Q108 II, and upon taking them apart to tighten stuff and look around, I've noticed they are very well built torroidal transformer based amps assembled to a very high stan...
Synergistic Red Fuse ...
Here's a well reasoned thread I found for those interested in some background on this stuff: An Audiogon discussions from 2013 titled "Synergistic Research HFT + FEQ"…check it out if you dare!
Synergistic Red Fuse ...
I don't order anything from a company that I feel makes up ethically questionable technobabble ad copy, and I think questioning the technology SR used to design things, including the fuses that blow due to incorrect ratings (using a $6 Littlefuse ...
subwoofer crossover- lowest is best almost always?
I'm too egocentric to allow digital room management (I'm a live sound tech and an Old Person) for my 2 subs, but luckily the shape of my room (high sloping ceilings with impeccably tasteful furnishings) works well to keep standing waves from pollu...
Synergistic Red Fuse ...
I utterly understand the promotion of suspicious tweaks using this forum if only from a purely business point of view. If a forum exists to hard sell a relatively expensive product with no rational explanation of how it works, using made-up techno...
Synergistic Red Fuse ...
The intense promotion of a specific product here seems unprecedented, and my previous post was deleted as I suggested Audiogon, who has accepted advertising money from SR, is simply looking the other way regarding the shilling "buy it and get yer ...
Is my room going to suck
Long interconnects are a really bad idea unless they're balanced cables used with appropriately balanced amp and preamp ins and outs. I think 3 feet is a safe run for single ended cables, 200 feet for balanced.
The illusion of soundstage.
Pan pots used to any degree by any recording engineer are the secret…pan left, pan right, or no pan at all.
Determining current flow to install "audiophile" fuses.
Note the quotation marks around "many." How telling. There isn't even any actual evidence that SR "quantum tunnels" (man…nice choice of terms there SR, as not only does it not make sense, it sounds great!) anything with their silly claims of havin...
Speakers for Rock - up to 1kusd
Mumblecore…you gotta be able to get the essence of that genre, along with Shoe Gaze. A speaker that reproduces silence that can fill a large room…one that works well even when the hifi rig is turned off.
Confused: Should I Upgrade Cables or Amp first?
I drive a pair of Silverline Preludes (supposedly 91db efficiency but measured more like 89 in a Stereophile review…Silverline exaggerates their specs a bit it would seem, including the silly 35 hz bass claims for my speakers…35hz with the Prelude...

Cleaning the fuse contacts might make your fuse do its job a little better, and the otherwise magical effect a 4000% profit margin tiny wire (an SR black fuse for example) is certainly El Placebo a Mundo. Putting a $112 sandwich on your gear would...
Treasure KT120z vs NOS GEC KT88
I recently bought a set of tubestore matched new GL KT88s just to see what's what, and damn…they're good in my trusty Jolida 502p. I've had KT120s, 150s, Tung Sol 6550s (came stock), Sovtek 88s…all in that amp and somehow the Lions seem like a gre...
Recommendation for Integrated Amp with Tone Controls
A good friend who produces some of the live shows I mix has had a Vincent 236 for a while (uses the  Silverline Prelude main speakers I own, and it's where I first heard those) and it's a beast. The pics of these things don't convey how massive th...
Music Lovers Speaker vs. Audiophile Speaker
Describing in "broad brush" terms what audiophiles do seems somewhat meaningless as this hobby contains seemingly infinite variation among people and their gear…I think you can say audio geeks want gear that sounds "real good" (to them) and are wi...
