Note to Oregonpapa regarding Taj Mahal's mystery guitar player…Jesse Ed Davis became a friend of mine when he was hanging out in Honolulu in the early 80s, borrowed a 60s Vibrolux from me and produced some stuff for a band I knew...a true guitar g...
remove tubes before moving cross town?
I've schlepped tube guitar amps all over the place since the 60s…watched a luggage dude drop an Anvil cased Twin Reverb (with JBLs so it weighed about a ton…it was the 70s dammit) on the runway and it survived fine…amps in car crashes (more than o...
Five "Golden Rules" of HiFi?
Yeah…go to the Munich High End show and note the cost of schlepping yourself there is more than you might spend on most components…no problemo! Coming from the school of Experienced Professional Live Sound Tech and Professional Musician plus certi...
Turntable Advice
Do SOTAs allow for VTA adjustment on the Rega arm? That's always been a deal breaker for me regarding purchasing a Rega as otherwise I do like Rega's design philosophy…VTA…gotta have it...
How long do high quality speakers "last"
I expect my Silverline Preludes to really last as they have magnesium/aluminum drivers and rubber surrounds. The crossover caps may die before the drivers, but I’ll likely get bored and replace the speakers with something else due to boredom or cu...
Anybody else using a distributed array sub system?
noble100…wait…I still might need assistance…don't abandon me!
Anybody else using a distributed array sub system?
Harumph! (heh) I actually AM an expert in bass and acoustics (pro musician and live sound mixer for 5 decades or so), although my opinions on sound aren't necessarily driven by anything beyond personal taste. I wasn't complaining about my indoor s...
Anybody else using a distributed array sub system?
I added a REL 10" sub a few years ago and in my largish hifi room it works well without digital eq…furniture, large rug, high sloping ceiling…lucky me as this obviates the need for bass traps or hiring fat people to sit around (no offense to fat p...
From a Close Minded Audiophile--Sumiko S5 Subwoofer Helps
Great sounding well designed main speakers functioning full range can yield very musical results, and small woofers (and baffles) can also sound great, with astonishing soundstage capabilities…adding subs makes it all better as good subs can charg...
Speakers Women Like
Not sure if this fits, but as a live sound mixer working mostly "folkie" and jazz shows, I've noticed that many successful professional female performers (as compared to novice musicians performing as opening acts) are much more concerned than mos...

"Good tube Integrated Amps"
I’ve had a "factory upgraded" Jolida 502p for years and am so impressed with its quiet and powerful presentation of tube slam and refinement I that I don’t hesitate to recommend this stuff…that 3502 looks cool, and hey, it’s still much less expens...
Does anyone use the Silverline Audio SR 17 speakers? If so, how do you like them?
I've had the "non plus" Preludes for a while and they are really great speakers. They're voiced for a relatively even tone that works for me with non screechy treble and great mids, and although the specs claim more bass than they actually produce...
Integrated for Vandersteen 2ce sigII
I’m baffled by the open baffle comment, only because I though 2Cs weren’t open baffle speakers, simply time aligned drivers. I’ll go look it up…baffling…OK…looked it up…they have minimal baffles as all Vandies do.
how do you handle your clean records?
I think to must be an age thing…it drives me nuts to see somebody like Jimmy Fallon grabbing an LP by its edge and pulling it out of the sleeve when for about 50 years or so  I've been avoiding ever touching anything but the edge using the previou...
